| Apex Techie II | Yesterday i bought a Zalman CNPS7700-Cu for my 775 proc. With the stock 3 GHz im idling at 70 degrees (C). Even with the fan set to full speed the temps still stay hot. I used the stock thermal grease that came with the cooler and was wondering if this had any effect on the temps. This cooler is keeping the temps 20 degrees warmer than the stock cooler. What did i do wrong? Thanks. | |

| How are you checking the temps?? Are you using the ITS software that came with the MOBO or usng coretemps? My guess would be that you need to get the program CoreTemp and run it. What do each of the cores read. Was it a bottle of the Zalman Thearmal Grease? and did you apply it to both the processor and HS? | ||

| Gotta be a bad mount. Take it off, clean it up and remount it. Wouldn't hurt to get some good TIM like AS5 either. Make sure nothing is interferring with it mounting flat against the cpu. You might need to trim it a bit. | ||

| Apex Techie II | I am using speedfan to read the temps but when i shut down and go into the BIOS the temps are the same as the software reading. I will try re-mounting it hopefully it will improve the temps because 90 degrees in game is unacceptable. | |

Definately sounds like a bad mount. Also, make sure you do not put too much thermal compound on it. Too much AS5 is bad. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| If a quick remount, and a thin coat of paste (Not thicker than a sheet of paper) don't do the trick...then as much of a PITA as it is, I would pull the Mobo and set it on a flat surface (Kitchen table works great) Then you can "Eyeball" it to see if it sits level...and it makes it easier to correct if anything needs to be reworked for clearances (A last resort, there shouldn't be a reason too, recheck the installation instructions carefully first!) | ||
