Did you release the tension on the clip with the lever on the side? Also more info like what cooler you are using might help.

What exact model of heatsink/cooler are you using on your processor?

Is it the stock one that came with your processor?

Is it an after marker cooler such as a Zalman or Thermaltake or Arctic Cooler?

Just slow down and take your time. I'm sure that between all of us here we can help you figure out what is going wrong.

umm its the stock, but like i said, on my old motherboard it ran striaght 45c, probably 50c on load

also my voltage i think is at 1.45/1.44 if thats the voltage im thinking of.

i turned it off bios, it hit 94c... im scared :O maybe not enough thermal? i put like just like a little coat on, just put on so it covered the whole top of the processer but not a thick coat, really really light.

Really really light is how its supposed to be applied. As long as the heatspreader was covered, you're good.

What did you turn off in the bios?

I'm also using the stock 939 heatsink and my fan spins between 3300 and 3600 rpm. You also said you have to stick your finger almost in the fan to feel the air moving. Is your fan blowing air down onto the heatsink or is it sucking air out from the heatsink? It should be installed blowing air down into the heatsink.

Someone please correct me if i am wrong, If you can not feel the air blowing out towards you that means the air is blowing in towards the heatsink if i am not mistaken, now if you could feel the air blowing out towards you the fan is sucking the heat away from the heatsink.

You mention a new motherboard, make sure you update the BIOS, I've had many false temperature readings because of old BIOS versions. (MSI especially)

One could argue that as long as the fan blades are spinning, the fan is doing its job...

Blowing air down onto the heatsink, or drawing it in from the sides, the bottom line is that it's spinning.

I'm with Dreyco, check and make sure that you have the latest BIOS updates for the new board... As for the "reformatting", I'd worry about getting the BIOS updated first, before you start worrying about pulling the HSF off and reapplying TIM.

Now, if that heatsink is giving you that much trouble to pull it off, you might want to take it to someone you can pay to (and possibly later sue for damaging) remove your HSF/motherboard/CPU.

AMD 64 CPU and heatsink fan installation videos

http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/...5E6678,00.html

You won't neccesarily need to worry about having a wrist ground strap like in the video, just touch a metal item (Ground yourself) before handling a CPU or working on your PC, try not to be on carpeting, and don't forget to ground yourself if you move from the work area before restarting work...grounding yourself often is a good idea in general.

ModSynergy.com - Article 7 - AMD Athlon 64/FX Heatsink/Fan Installation Guide

I the heat sink area under the fan itself free from dust? (Clogged)

You can remove the fan by taking out the 4 screws holding it in place carefully and using canned (Compressed) air or a small paintbrush to clean the area.

In your Bios, there should be an option to have itself shut down if the temps exceed a certain temperature wich you can chooes, I set mine for 60c.

You can also (Depending on the bios) often set the fan to maintain a certain temperature, it will adjust the rpm of the fan dynamically to maintain it (Set for 40-45c)
