Default cooked cpu

I have a volcano 9 and i flipped the clip that mounts the heatsink to the socket. Well in doing there wasn't enough pressure to push the heatsink totally on the cpu. Now I have a smoked XP1700. Looking at the heatsink core, after i cooked the cpu, I could tell only half of the heatsink actually was on the cpu by the imprint of thermal compound. So F.Y.I don't flip the clip

Why did you "flip the clip"?

my heatsink is butted up against my psu so i flipped it to make it easier to get it off without having to take the psu out. the lil slot for the screw driver was towards the psu i flipped it so it was facing the bottom of the case. Too bad the board i fried it on didn't have overheat protection like i thought it did. Oh and I got it at SVC so it's 60 bucks

Ouch man. Back when I had my Volcano 9 I was going to do the same, but thank god I didn't.
