Default lower temps = better performance.....

I was talking to some of my lan buddies and the subject of lapping your HSF came up.....i interjected and said lapping your HSF provides a smoother surface, which inturn means more of the cpu touches the heatsink, therefore better heat transfer and lower cpu temps.....and i said, lower temps = better performance

one of the guys then says prove it......i tried to explain it to him and he understand what im saying, but wants some type of hard copy proof......

anyone know of any tests or articles that show lower cpu temps equals out to better performace, more stability....etc etc.?

Try to pull a 500MHz OC on a hot CPU.

Then try to pull a 500MHZ OC on a cold CPU.

I'll refer you to my VapoChill review.

While it's true the lower the temperature the faster electrical impulses travel. But you'd have to get something very cold before you'd notice any real difference. The performance gained from lapping a hsf would hardly be measureable. Any performance gained from lowering your temps is due to the greater overclockability that comes with that.

Show him an article comparing the overclocking of a stock heatsink verses a Vapochill or Promethia cooler or a good water cooler. The theory is exactly the same, but with a more measurable result. Lapping will only buy you a degree or two if your hsf has a crappy base finish to start with. It would be hard to measure the difference that would make without extremely rigid testing conditions.

Yes,
It's more mesurable when extremely cooled...ask them to show you a stable O/C of 600mhz on a shizitty cooler to die interface
no matter what kind of cooling solution they choose!!
..then show them this[http://forums.pcapex.com/showthread....&threadid=5903]...make sure to ask em,
"how ya like me now??"
