| Lwrs gave me one of the Zalman heatpipe coolers for my 9800 Pro 128 and it was a good upgrade over the stock cooling, but I suspect that for some reason my system is still crashing due to video temps. What I want to know is, would the Zalman heatpipe or something like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835186110 or http://www.arctic-cooling.com/vga2.php?idx=36 be more effective? to the touch, the heatpipe cooler is pretty damn hot when the system crashes which is making me suspect of it, and exhausting the hot air out the back would make good sense to me... | The heatpipe has the zalman fan on the side of it so airflow isnt a problem I dont think... the case as a whole has suspect intake so I have added an 80mm fan to the side pannel down by the AGP slot. So overall I am not concerned with airflow for the gfx card. I need to open up more for the front intake but it is passable at the moment. 120mm rear exhaust, 92mm on the CPU (SLK900 CPU cooler). 80mm Intake front 80mm intake side. | ||

| Invest in a slot cooler similar to THIS . . . There are different brands, you may be able to find one with better CFM. I purchased one at a computer show and it really throws heat from inside my case. There is also the idea of putting a fan in the side panel of your case to increase cooling. How is the RAM? Is it possible the heat from the GPU is causing the RAM to overheat? Perhaps ramsinks and more airflow would do the trick. Just a few ideas! EDIT- OK I see airflow doesn't seem to be the issue, so I would say ramsinks would be a good investment. | ||

Yep, it is actually. The heatpipe seems to be...... piping the heat quite well, but it still is too hot. The card isnt overclocked at all. I need a new card... Man, screw being poor.

HECK YEAH! I just got a job at Office Depot! Hopefully I will just be lower class, but not completely poor! WOO!!! Um yeah, if you are crashing and the card isnt even clocked, then there is something up. Are you OCing the CPU? If so, back off the FSB a few notches and run her through the paces. Also double check for any BIOS settings that may be causing the problem.

Nothing is overclocked and all is stock. Still warm.

| I don't think anyone has suggested this yet, but try reinstalling the heatsink all together. Make sure the heatsink is making perfect flush contact with the GPU die, and try some Artic Silver 5 paste if you aren't already. If all is OK in that department, then I'm sorry to say it is most likely that your card is going bad. If everything is running stock settings and she's running hot, there is something seriously wrong. A 9800 just shouldn't be very hot at all at stock speeds... sorry man ![]() Jobi | ||
