Default Heatsink RPM Question

Is there anyway to increase the RPM's on my stock 3.0 GHz heatsink. I just installed a new asus p4c800-e deluxe and the temps im getting off this proccesor are ridiculous without even anything running. Turns off on me from time to time. heres screens of temp and fan monitor.......

My CPU Fan barely passes the Threshhold and same with Chasis Fan....... im not worried about noise so is there a way to speed this crap up or just toss heatsink?

Specifics, like A64 winnie or P4 prescott, please.

Try reseating the hs, it might not be making proper contact with the processor.

If you got a P4 Prescott, I'm sure another more qualified PimpRig member will answer this unfortunate property of that particular Intel core.

I've been an AMD convert for years now, the last Pentium I touched just had MMX technology.

You might try looking in your BIOS under hardware monitor. Look for something like smart fan or something to that effect. See if it is turned on. If it is on turn it off and see if that helps. My p4c800 deluxe has that setting in the BIOS and I can't remember what it is called exactly, but I keep mine set at 14\16 and it keeps my fan a little quieter. But my temps only get up to 125F at the most. Also if that feature is turned on and you are using a stock heatsink and fan on that presscott chip don't even think of using that option. I would look into a better coolong solution if I were you. Stock don't cut it with those chips if you really want to use the computer. My .02 cents.

Those temps are dangerously high, even for a P4 3.0. I would try picking up a tube of Arctic Silver 5, and reseating the HSF. Also, try picking up a fan controller to max out the RPM's on it, if possible. It might already be maxed.

Also, it wouldn't hurt to pick up an upgraded HSF. My personal fave is the Zalman 7700 model. It's what i'm using on my A64 right now.

Yea your right im gonna order one from newegg.com now. Looked in bios in Hardware Monitor and found a Q-Control that was disabled for the heatsink and enabled it to a default setting of 11/16 ratio and now with no load on it but this forum im still at 71/159. Will the Zalman work with a socket 478 tho? Well ill check it out now thanks guys

Try this instead. Couple it with a Panaflo H1A and Nanotherm PCM+. You'll need the special bracket though.

Ps.
Never trust the stock heatsink of any CPU.

Yeah the stock cooler has its own temp speed stepping, it can control itself. Our family 2.8 overclocked to 3.0Gz pressy load is around 40c...

Personally id never try overclocking using a stock heatsink at all. They simply arn't designed for it.

I don't know how many times this has been said, but stock heatsinks are designed purely to keep the CPU at an operational temp level at stock speeds.

My apologies, I think I mis-read your original post...my bad.

In that case, id go with what Hibiki said about resetting your HSF, no way should temps be that high. Get some decent airflow inside your case too.

For a P4 3.0E 775 Socket you need to buy the following
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835109118
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835999351
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811999122
These parts are $91.44 total. But I've got a P4 3.0E with a Abit AG8 and PC4200 running at 4.0 Ghz with this setup. The temps stay in the 40-50dC or 103-118dF range (these are approx.)

I have a Thermaltake Tsunami Dream PC Case with one 120mm intake, one 120mm exhaust, an 80mm intake a pci slot cooler and my Aerocool 550w SE+II PSU also exhausts from inside the case with a 80mm fan aswell as just the PSU. Also Socket 478 mobo. I think thats pretty decent cooling as far as resetting the HSF..... I reset it with no change in temps at all. So basicaly if this new heatsink and Arctic Silver 5 doesnt cool her down im going to have to buy a backup CPU for when I burn this one to hell LMAO. Only runs at 1339 RPM's tho so Ive just ordered the Zalman CNPS7000B-CU LED CPU Cooler and Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Silver Thermal Compound.

lol are you talking about heatsink or case fans? I would think the temps of the heat sink would melt the duck tape right off???

LoL... yea i think they do too. I cancled that order on the Zalman heatsink and im looking for something with much more airflow and higher rpms dont care if it roars at me lol. Any ideas I got about $80 to spend I just dont want to to go with something thats going to lower temps a little....I have to drop from 150F on idle temps and 170-175F while playing Vietcong and Battlefield 2 ;( I have Socket 478 Pentium 4 HT Prescott and want to oc it to about 3.8. Any extreme heatsinks u guys can think of?
