Start by replacing that Heatsink fan. There a fairly cheap item at the PC store. I would rather start there than replace the mobo. Did lightning actually hit the house and travel through the lines?

First of all does your computer start up at all? Have you tried connecting the heatsink fan to other connecters on the mobo? Have you tried other fans?

It's most likely your power supply. The lightning could have fried your mobo, ram or cpu though as well.

Test it with a new psu to begin with. Borrow a friends or something.

Right on Turbo, that is where I would start, also make sure the Power Strip didn't trip a breaker or fry.

Fans rarely die, Murphy's law says so, cause they are cheap to replace...

It's all the EXPENSIVE stuff like Power supplies, CPU's, Ram, and Motherboards that seem to go belly up with a power surge

Good luck!

Well, then you may need a new cpu, mobo, ram, or all of the above.

I always use a top quality powerstrip, with surge protection and a transformer. UPS is the best way to go though, if you got the money.

Troubleshoot your system, step by step. The easiest thing to do, is set your system up outside of the case on a clean table, and start swapping parts with known good ones. This saves a lot of time.

I bet your mobo might have fried.

Also, I would try a new psu just to be safe.

Just because the 12v rail is still working doesn't mean the other's are. Test your P/S to make sure.

Can you tell us what socket you are running is it ( A socket ) need some info on what socket you have to make sure you are going to get the rite heatsink and fan for your Mobo.
PS i would check to make sure your power supply is running correct to. other issues to check are the mobo, ram, that can all do what you are saying to.

I would also have to agree what you are saying there turbopsi, I had the same problem one time did all the steps that you are telling latinoSIZZLE in the end it was the mobo that fried. But that could be a different issue with his unless he was to try the steps you told latinoSIZZLE to do.

NP, the powersupply is usually the first thing to go when the lightning hits.
