| I recently Purchased a pentium 4 and am using the standard processor fan which came with it.I fitted it to my motherboard (AS Rock English version) and the thermal pad on the bottom of the fan torn and moved a bit too much for my liking.I picked the thermal compound off the fan and processor but there is still a thin layer on both.Could you please tell me the best thermal coumpound to use i was leaning towards arctic silver,And if its important to get absolutely all of the patch off the processor and fan. Thanks for your feedback Jake UK P.S Is there any other modders in the uk?? P.S.S Or Lan Parties? | ||

| And definitely remove all of the pad and associated sticky stuff. Rubbing alcohol does the trick. Also check this link: http://forums.pcapex.com/showthread....hlight=thermal | ||

| Motion seconded for the Artic Silver 5. Removing absolutely all of the thermal paste is not 100% necessary, but I always do since I'm a perfectionist. As mrcracker said, a little bit of rubbing alcohol is good for removing the gunk. Just be absolutely sure you remove the old stock white thermal paste off the die, at least. | ||

Get Arctic Silver 5 and their thermal material removing kit (comes in 2 bottles) , ocuk have pretty good prices for them. I'm in the UK and I'm into modding. LAN parties.... my rig is a permanent fixture in my living room and my lan party box is a carrying case, keyboard, mouse & 15" LCD away from completion. So can't really comment more on that. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | Seems i need to be a lil different lol but i use shin-etsu G751 for all my thermal paste needs its kinda thick n a lil harder to spread (oh n i got a m8 with a bag of them so free for me) but if i need to buy any now i think is go for Shin etsu X23-7783D something like G751 but easier to work with, oh and just a lil fact ibm uses shin etsu G751 for all xeons so it cant be too bad :p | |
