Question Thermal Paste/Compound

Does thermal compund _really_ make that much of a difference? I've gathered that Arctic Silver 5 is the best, but before I get it I wanted to see if anyone knew otherwise?

Yeah thermal compound does. You need something to help move the heat from the CPU to your cooling device. The actual metal to metal contact area is not very good. You need a thermal compound to fill in the gaps and create a larger contact area to move more heat.

Yes, it does without a doubt...............I've used it for the HSF, northbridge cooler and my video card cooler......I use nothing else........

In my review of the Vanessa L-type cooler I used the TIM that they supplied and then reinstalled using AS5 and got a significant decrease in temps.

If interested in a comparison between popular TIMs here is an excellent source:
http://forums.procooling.com/vbb/sho...2&postcount=60

The last graph being most useful. Realize that lower thermal resistance (C/W) is desirable and that settling, pressure, and thickness also play a major part in end-user performance. I'd say go with the AS5 or Ceramique...whichever you can find cheaper. Can't go wrong with either.

For the entire thread:

I like those results of 25, can't wait to see what 32 will do when released (if it's the chosen one... ETA late summer/early Fall)

Sorry, I didn't make my question clear - I was indeed talking about choice of thermal compound!

Hmm, SX-25 doesn't seem to be available in England. So I guess AS 5 it is...

Thanks for your interest everyone, and thanks for the links.

Wow....

First time I've seen this, but going by this piece of crap in the guise of "technical details":
http://www.geil.com.tw/portal/product_gltcp.php

I think I'll pass. They can't even spell compound correctly much less provide any clue that they have the foggiest idea of what they're talking about . It's worse than some of the pseudo-science included in reviews I've read over the years by know-nothing teeners. I think something this bad deserves an e-mail.

Ok...

Its a Taiwanese website from a (im guessing) Taiwanese company.

Would you let the inaccuracies of a Taiwanese translator dude put you off a product? I didn't, and trust me, its very effective stuff, I use nothing else.
