Default Thermal Paste Application

I ordered 2 heatsinks from zalman, one for the cpu and one for the gpu and AS 5.
I was wondering if I should apply the thermal paste the way that arctic silver tells you on their site or does anybody have other ways to apply it. (Pentium 4)
There are no directions on how to apply thermal paste onto a video card. So should I just do it they way your supposed to put on P3?(FX5900xt)

Any help is greatly apreciated.

Apply a very thin layer (paper thin) evenly to the processor and then mount the heat sink. Once installed do not remove the heat sink. Use a credit card or a razor blade to spread the compound.

Agreed...
As far as the GPU remember that AS5 is also conductive and capacitive so be sure not to foul the resistors around the GPU die...
the ArticSilver website has excellent info on curing as well...follow their instructions to a "T", they manufactured it, they would know....

Ditto what HoJo and ZENNZZO said. The first time I got ahold of some AS5, I followed the instructions on their website to the letter, and have never had any problems whatsoever.

Since then, I've done my AS5 applications a *little* bit differently, by warming up the syringe beforehand if it's been sitting for a while. How? I roll it between my palms for about 2~3 minutes, then apply just a little less than what AS has in their instruction pictures. IMO, it's easier to add a little more than to add too much to start and then try to keep things neat while removing the excess...

Right now, I' thinking that the only trouble I'll have is with the video card. The CPU seems simple enough but the VGA seems a bit harder. I heard of people have a horrible time trying to get the stock heatsink off because of the thermal paste the companys use. Any advice?

I layed a credit card down under the cooling block and took a flat head screw driver and worked my way around the block still finaly it poped off. Just don't put to much pressure on the cooling block.

like everyone else said, spread it thin, i use a peace of glass from a 1x16 character lcd, because it is not as wide as a credit card, or a razor.

just to clarify things, AS5 is not electricly conductive, although it does hold a small capacatance. so if you you do get some on the resistors, it prolly does not matter, but you should wipe it off carefully anyways.
