Default Temperature Question?

I need help reading temps! I just got a new Asus A7N8X Deluxe setup & I'm not sure if my temps are bad, I'm reading them wrong, or I'm just retarded.

I'm running an Athlon XP 2100+ (Thoroughbred Rev. B) at stock speeds, with a Thermalright Sk7, Thermaltake Smart Case Fan II (all temps are with fan @ 4800rpm) & AS3.

Using Motherboard Monitor, I have sensor 1 mapped to Asus' sensor 1 (can't remember where it is), and it reads about ~20-24 at idle, ~27 load, so I know it's not the temps I'm looking for.

Sensor 2 is mapped to Asus' sensor 2 (under CPU socket), and it runs ~29-32 at idle & ~37 load.

I don't know which sensor to map to sensor 3. I've heard either W83L785TS-S or W83L785TS-S Diode. This is where my temps are a little high. Anyone know which one is more accurate? The diode reads my temps at ~38 idle & never more than 52 load. The regular W83L785TS-S usually reads about 2C higher or lower (kinda inconsistent). These are the temps that seem higher than what I've read many of you are getting.

Do these temps seem a little high to anyone else? Terrible? Acceptable? Also, where do you guys read your temps from?

Sorry for such a long post. Any suggestions/advice you guys have is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

for mbm 5 you need the latest version 5.2.2.0
the CPU is Asus 2
the Mobo temp is Asus 1

Thanks man. I've got MBM 5.2.2.0 w/ the latest updates. I just wasn't sure what temp I should be reading/what temp is more accurate.

Is this the general consensus? Are most of you reading temps from the socket diode? Any nForce owners think/know if CPU diode is better?

Most folks read from the socket, but the CPU is more accurate. Your temps are pretty good.

I have seen wild temps all around the block.

The truth is, the only real usefullness for all these temps is from the aspect of comparison.

ie.... Am I hotter today then yesterday ? if so, why ?

or, I am running almost the same gear as you, but your temps are 10C higher then mine, could be the setup, or could be innaccurate temp readings, lets see if we can track it down.

I know, slowly increase the heat till each system starts displaying heat problems, don't stop at the first, make both fail and record what temps they were reading at failure.

If they both fail at the same reported temp +/- 2C then both are accurate and one just has a better setup. But if they fail with a temp variance greater then +/- 2C then you can begin to track down temp sensor issues.

Maybe ?

Thanks for the input guys. I just wanted to make sure my temps were in a normal range before I commence tweaking. I already actually removed/reseated/reapplied AS3 twice thinking I might have done a crappy job originally. I actually made it worse the first time, but after the second time everything seems to be kosher. Don't want to start my purdy new proc on fire with a mild OC

I have a question also, I have a Thermalright, AX-7 with an 80mm fan on it. Roughly how much of a diff would a 92-80mm adaptor and a nice 92mm fan make on my cooling? or even a 120-80mm adaptor and a 120mm fan?

i know the variation comes in the different amounts of airflow, CFM's and such. What would double the CFM's do for my cooling?

I have no mention of any diode anywhere in mbm. I have a7n8x deluxe with a 2400xp and all i have in mbm is asus 1 asus2 etc, and for somereason asus 3 is at some huge temperature like 127 celcius so now im sorta worried what could this be?

Behemoth, I've heard people in the amdmb & nforcerhq forums mentioning sensor 3 having ridiculously high temps, but no one seems to know where sensor 3 is located. Anyway, it's obviously not accurate, because if it was, you'd already be screwed.

As far as not having the diode as an option, make sure you have the latest update files for MBM if you don't already. I guess it could also be a BIOS thing, but I really can't say for sure.

Why not just use the Asus PC probe?

ok, sorry i tried to hijack this thread, Im gonna go ahead and slap a 92mm fan on my heatsink with that milled alum addaptor. its gonna look goood! and 68 CFM MUST cool better than 32!!!
