Default Volcano Heatsink/Fan

Im thinking of getting one of the TT volcano fans, and im just trying to figure out which one is the best value. Im looking at either one of the volcano 7's or 9's. I heard that the plastic covering on the volcano 9 with coolmod can block airflow. Is this true? I need this to go on a xp 2400+. Will these work? Is TT a bad brand to buy? Any advice/tips are appreciated. Thanks.

Just read up on every Thread about heatsinks on the forums.

Short summary :

Alpha, Swiftec , or ThermalRight, you cant go wrong with either of these three brands.

Personally recommend a Sk-7 or an SLK-800 with a good high flow fan

Check out www.svc.com for the best prices on most heatsinks.

Yeah, I have a volcano 9 and I run at 95 F with an Athlon XP 2000+. The coolmod is pretty ugly anyway so I wouldn't bother with it.

Get the Xazer editiion Thermaltake Volcano 11, its an all coper version of the Volcano 9, performs better than the copper volcano 7, and has a neato fan grill. Theres also a duct mod you can get for it that will (they say) improve cooling and lower noise.

here -> http://www.thermaltake.com/products/...ductingMod.htm for info on this mod.

this http://www.thermaltake.com/products/.../subzero4g.htm looks kinda interesting....

Thermaltake has never made a high performance heatsink.

Even the new Xaser one is all show and no go.

Let me amend this a little bit.

The better the heatsink, the better the cooling, and if you don't need the better cooling, then you can use a quieter lower CFM fan and get that working for you as well.

But a midrange heatsink like the Thermaltakes only allow for halfassed cooling with a high CFM fan, never give good cooling performance unless your cpu sund really cool like a new XP1700+ T-Bred, and will always be noisy.

Maybe not moisier then that loud arsed PSU you have, but noisey all the same.

I agree! Even if you don't need high end cooling ........ a high end HS will allow the use of a much quieter fan.

And if you are really in love with the "CoolMod" look ...... use the LED fan of your choice on any ThermalRight (not thermaltake) HS.
