Unhappy oooops

i have a msi k7n2 delta m/b with an xp2600 cpu in an icute case.i have overclocked this rig and now need a decent h/fan.i have tried a zalman 7000b-alcu h/fan but the whole assembly is too bloody big.no room around the socket.does anyone know of a good h/fan setup that would fit my board .because of the o/c i am getting fairly high temps and i dont want to go to watercooling .desperately need some good suggestions.please help out a fellow o/clocker.(i am new to this).one other thing is the zalman rig has to be bolted dwn.my board only has clips.no bolt holes.

How quickly some become forgotten. It was done by Stephen "Sny" Cooper if I recall correctly. That heatsink has been obsoleted a few times over now though.

I figured id give ya the reviews that are here beofre you go out and buy, so that you have an overall perspective before buying

EDIT: ya man check out Hojo's review! that seems like a pretty well suited HSF for your computer and cooling needs!

how about giving us the details of your overclock so we can guage a little better what class of heatsink you really need before selling you on something that wont fit that board (i have owned 2 of them, and aware of that boards limitations)...

i know for a fact that the board you have is an awesome overclocker ,using that board, i was one of, if not THE first member here to get a 700+mhz overclock out of a JIUHB XP-1700 Tbred Athlon....on air....with virtually no voltage change...

your heatsink choice will depend on just how much of an overclock you are doing, your voltage, and your wallet...

I remember that!....I was in AWE...on air no doubt...that started a mass rush to go out and get a 1700DLT3c asap...

i have an xp2600 with barton core o/c to 2.231mhz with 195 fsb
fsb/dram ratio 1:1
vcore 1.7 volts
ram 2.7 volts
333 ddr ram o/clocked to 388 ddr
ram memory is cas 3-4-4-8

my highest temp using memtest is 62 c and idle is 35 c.the h/s would have to be clip on only.hope this gives you a better idea

something like the zallmans and thermalrights everyone spoke of earlier would probably help out your temps a great deal, but i dont see it helping them so much that it warrants the price of it versus a newer, better, cooler running chip...i could be wrong, but im speaking purely from experience here...and from what i have seen, a temperature drop of around 7-12C is what you will see with a better heatsink and better interface material, if thats enough to warrant the purchase, then im all for it, just dont plan on pusing what you have much further (if at all)...

from what i can gather, your cpu may very well be a severe limitation as this makes the 2nd example of the exact same chip not wanting to go over 2.2ghz nicely, no matter what, even if the temps arent high enough to create issues i would say either lower the volts and lower the overclock a bit, or just break down and buy a cpu with some teeth (like, a Barton 2500M)...something else i find weird, is the 27C difference between idle and full load temps, thats incredibly high...

one other thing i noticed, your ram seems to be pc 2700...you will probably want to consider upgrading that really soon too as that will be a severe bottleneck in your ventures if you plan on keeping that mem/fsb ratio set to 1/1....cas3 or not....

i decided to pull the o/c back a bit.i am now running - 2.18ghz
185 fsb
1:1 fsb/dram ratio
2.6 volts dram
1.625 volts vcore
ddr333 o/c to ddr368
i also ran memtest and prime95 for 2 hours with no errors and an idle temp of 36c and top temp of 47c.(seems to be running much cooler).i also ran super pi and got 57 secs at 1m.the only issue i now have is that i dont want to get rid of my zalman h/fan.its an awsome unit.my wife told me we could afford another board that will take this unit(unfortunately not a 64 bit -that may happen later on down the track).do you know of a good amd board that takes bolt down h/fans with the socket a little closer to the centre of the board.dont get me wrong - my k7n2 is awsome but i need a good o/c board so i can use my zalman and push my o/clocking without going into meltdown?

DFI Lan Party NFII, I have one and pushed my *LOCKED* xp2600 to 2.4ghz @ 1.9 volts. @ 55*C though, but my ambient temp is 80*F

Whatever you do, do NOT but an ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe, they suck and I had a problem with mine that is a documented issue with this motherboard, one of my co-workers has the exact same problem with his. the difference between his and mine is mine is in two pieces on the floor.

I'm not too sure if that Zalman cooler will fit my setup though, I have been asking myself the same question. Any DFI LP NFII owners running CNPS 7k's here?
