| I don't know about you guys, but the orange fan on Tt heatsinks leaves me aesthetically wanting. I do enjoy it's performance, and would like to continue to use aspects of it, particularly the auto speed control. Now my question is this, if I were to get any other thermal speed controlled fan, by removing the thermister and attaching the sensor leads from the Tt, would the new fan do the same job? If so, does anyone know of any thermal controlled UV reactive fans? My other option which I am less than thrilled about would be to buy UV paint and spray the existing fan. | ||

| Apex Advanced Techie | What is a UV reactive fan? I have a TT fan with the thermal probe on it from my Volcano7 that I'm using with my SK-7 and I'm fairly happy with it. Could be a little less noisey. How does painting a fan change it's proformance? I'm just a newb! | |

| You right Gumby, the orange fan color bites really bad. I have a SmartFan2, which is what your talking about as well I gather. First off, there is a difference in painting the fan housing, and the fan blades and some colors actually compliment each other. So if your worried about throwing off the balance of the fan, just select a color that makes the orange blades work better, and paint the fan housing. Don't know about UV thermally controlled fans, I am sure there is one, just don't know who makes it. And Thermaltake Heatsinks have never been top performers, mid range at the best. EDIT: By the way, you know you could just get a decent fan controller and then ALL your fans, and all the ones you ever buy, will all be thermally controlled ![]() EDIT again: I keep editing this because something here bothers me. Your wanting a thermally controlled fan, which is usually something that the "I love quiet" crowd is interested in. They only want the comp as noisy as it has to be. But your HS is inefficient and makes your fan run a lot faster and louder then you have to put up with. If you are after quiet computing, I suggest you spend your cash on the most efficient heat sinks you can find, then look for some quiet fans that fit all your needs and not a "catch-all" noise maker. | Well, the Smart case fan is (from what I can gather) the exact same fan as is provided with the HS. I don't have any problem with painting the housing, but I've got a blue theme going, so while the orange and blue aren't the worst two colors to go together, I would rather have all blue. BTW, I am using UV by accident. I really wanted the plain blue CCLF from sunbeam, but Directron only lists the UV version, and I didn't pay too close of attention. The glow from the UV fan is not bad though, and the problem would be there even if I got the one I wanted.I know that there may be better HS out there, but I sorta have a Tt sub-theme going. Also, I put in a bit of time lapping it, so I'm not ready to let it go yet. | ||

| After much google searching, I decided... SCREW IT. I got a 80mm to 120mm clear blue adapter from Jabtech (the cheapest I found) and a can of UV blue spraypaint from Xoxide. The next purchase will be a blue Enermax 120mm adjustable fan. The adapter and the outside of the fan will be painted as will my round IDE cables (why waste the money to buy new ones unless the paint job looks crappy!) It removes the nasty orange fan and boosts the performance... Tt fan 80mm - 21 to 76 CFM @ 17 to 48 dB Enermax 120 - 67 to 95 CFM @ 22 to 40 dB | ||

| You will like the uv paint you purchased. I'm using it on my volcano 7+ right now. I put a nice heavy coat on the housing. Then I pluged in the fan and sprayed directly into it. it put a nice even coat not to heavy, but enough to make it glow. Edit : Why go blue? They have so many colors and blue is so over done. Even though blue is cool. | ||

| Well, I chose blue because it went nicely with the modding I have done to the case. It came as a generic vanilla with a grey plastic accent fascia and nothing on either side. The front fascia has concentric circles starting from the center where the power and HD led are located. My first mod was to cut a circle traced from the plastic lid from a coffee can on to the beige plastic backing of the fascia. I replaced the front fan with a bright blue led fan, which glows nicely thru the grey and the circle theme is still going. I also replaced the green power led to a bright blue. My next mod was to put a window in the side. I haven't taken any pics yet as it is not quite finished. Here is a rough sketch... I took the Tt fan grille of the HS and attached that to the outside of the case, continuing the vanes out to the edge of the cover, buffed to the raw steel to mimic the cover. Behind it I put a Blue UV CCFL. I put a speaker and mic port on the front of the case as well. And now you know what the plans are for the HS. I also have some blue EL light wire coming. I think it's a pretty sweet rig for a noob modder. Last edited by Im_gumby; 28-February-03 at 03:45 PM.. | ||

| I promise to post some nice pics when I get the replacement PSU from newegg. ETA a couple of weeks. The worst part of all of this was the timing of the PSU taking a big crap... I had just finished looming all of the wires to where I was happy with it, I buttoned up the case, turned on the power and the bright blue light that greeted me was NOT from any of my fans ![]() | ||
