| i have that exact hsf on my 1700+ with a 75f case temp it keeps the cpu at 89f idle,95 load. even when i oc'd up to 1.8 it never went over 102f i know i have a cool running chip but this beats the pants off my volcano6cu, and is a little quieter. EDIT: if you plan on using this on an A7N8X, be patient, the capacitors at the bottom of the socket make putting it on tricky... | ||

| I have one myself on a 1800+ they are a pretty nice heatsink, escpeccilly with the TMD fan on there, you get pretty decent airflow and a low noise level. Its not as good as a thremalRight sink, but if the price is right, you will get a good performer with that sink | ||

| What price are they asking for for it? If its around 30-35 us dollars, you are better off going to www.svc.com and getting the SK-800 for $34. P.S. I own own of those Aeroflows too, I think they blew it when they put a 70mm tmd fan on it, they shoulda waited for the 80mm tmds. I personaly think the TMD fan is kinda noisy (its the noisiest fan in my case right now). | ||

| That is one of the three HSF units I recommended and it runs $33 at Newegg.com with the TMD fan. This was a recommendation for a P4 cooler. I recommended it as an option along with the MCX4000 and the Alpha PAL 8942 which would give him a broad range of good performers. One problem is that there appears to be a very short list of good performance P4 coolers. Here is the basis for my performance claim on this relativly inexpensive heatsink. Bill Adam's Testing at Overclocker's.Com Please take note that the only two tested heatsinks that beat it were running high output fans certain to be noisier then a TMD. I also recommended that he ask the rest of you guys for input ![]() | ||

| I forgot to say that this will be going a Gigabyte GA-7VRXP AMD board. Ill probably be overclocking the 2100+ a little. To 2ghz if I can. Ill probably be getting some XMS3200 to go with it also but maybe just XMS2700 depending on my money situation at the time. Thanks guys for your replys. The main thing that caught my eye was the look. Icpiper: On the to that you recommended. Do you have to have the 4 motherboard mounting hole? The reason Im asking is because Ive never messed with them before. I guess it isnt that hard to install besides having to take the board out. Also If i remember right those 2 do not come with fans. Would it be ok to put a slient fan on them. Im gonna try to cut the sound back in my system. | ||

| As I said above, these were recommendations for P4 coolers. I'll stand by my previous recommendation of Thermalright HSF for AMD chips, they are the best all around HSF by far for AMD chips. The SLK-800 is the one I have and it is awsome. Even a low speed fan will do a good job on it. There is a special model for the Y.S. Tech TMD fan that is shaped for it, and then the newer SLK-900 which is a best and even larger, and heavier then the SLK-800. Of course the 900 is more expensive as well. | ||

| Apex Advanced Techie | Looks don't mean sh!t. I've got a Thermaltake Volcano 7 on my XP 1700 that is kind of cool looking and is also loud as hell and only does an ok job of cooling. I just ordered a Thermalright SK-7 from www.svc.com for $19.99. I also ordered SVC's generic fan which has the same specs as the much more expensive Panaflo M1 fan. Can't wait for the package to arrive so I can end the maddess!!! | |

| i know they were. I just forgot to say that what I was planning on doing and the board I had and other things I thought might be useful. The SLK-800 looks like a good choice. Nice price. As for the fan. Will a low speed fan let me overclock it to where I want and still keep the temps down? Also what size of fan fits it? Ill probably be adding an 80mm intake in the front and possibly on the side. I will also be adding a 120mm blow hole. Hope that will help. albertj03: Thats what I have right now. The Volcano 7 that is. Thats why I want something new for my new chip. Mine really isnt that loud though. The loud fan is my case fan. I will agree that it doesnt cool very well. Mine stays around 50c. Last edited by Maverick; 14-February-03 at 12:00 AM.. | ||

| ALbert, I am sorry buddy, but that isn't quite the same as a Panaflo. Look at the bearings and the power consumption. That SVC fan draws 2 watts, and the Panaflo 1.48 watts. That's means the SVC needs 33% more power to get the same RPM. That would be because it is innefficiently designed and because the single-bearing construction. Unfortunatly it isn't the 1/2watt of power that your going to miss, it's the fact that it will fail long before the Panaflo will. That isn't so bad if it's a case fan, but if you have that happen on a CPU, it could cost you a whole lot of cash to save money on that fan. You know, there are real reasons so many of us recommend specific equipment. But you have to decide for yourself whether your going to trust us ![]() | ||

| Well I thought about it and the noise Im gonna have to live with. Maybe ill get some dynmat to keep the noise down more. Ill probably get stealth fans for the case instead of the heatsink. So in your opinion what is the best fan that is say under 40 db? I might as well get the best if im going this far. | ||

| There isn't anything wrong with the: Panaflo L1A / M1A Vantec Stealth Low speed Delta's Or the original Tt Smartfan Plus you should probably check our recent reviews on the LED fans, I haven't read up on them but I am about to check out that Sunbeam review and see the specs. but I suspect that they would be best as case fans. But the Panaflo fans are probably the best and have had a great reputation for years. They come without "tails" so you also need to order a 3 or 4 pin tail, that's the wires. | ||

| Apex Advanced Techie | Yeah I'm going to try out this SVC fan and will most likely pick up an M1 in the near future at the next computer show that comes to town to avoid paying $7 in shipping. The reason I got the SVC fan was because SVC doesn't sell the M1. To get the M1 I would have had to pay $7 shipping on the $19.99 Heatsink and then pay $11 for the fan at frozencpu plus another $7 for shipping. By buying both at SVC I paid $7 to ship both. The $2.95 price tag on the SVC fan caused an impulse reaction for me being the cheap bastard that I am!! | |
