Default High TEMP , Well MAYBE you ......

..got the same problem that i did before ,i used a new HSF(All copper) add 2 80mm fan & nothing works still high temp.

1)before i change my HSF i had the retail one my temp. was 56-57c idle , then i went buying a new HSF Vantec Tm-700cp-pro all copper & some Artic Silver3 put the new HSF on the cpu & then i got 49-50c idle ,no big change for a copper HSF ,.well i said to myself maybe because i got the Palomino cpu & they run hotter , so i left that ,like this for 2 weeks.

Then last night i had a idea & i tryed it guess what my temp. now is 39-40c idle now it's working good , how did i fix that?

Well first you got to have the cpu temp.on screen in real time use this program Hardware Sensor Monitor at (http://www.hmonitor.com/)
then after installing the program turn off the computer open the side panel the see the cpu then start-up the computer after finish loading windows run the program & then with your fingers press on the HSF & hold it (Small Presure) then look at your screen to see if the cpu temp.is going down , if it does here is what you should do.

Turn off the computer take out the HSF , take out the fan then take the clip & bent it (JUST a BIT) then put it back together & power on the computer & check your temp again if it drop your ok , if not do the same process again & bent some more but be VERY CAREFUL not TOO MUCH.

Oh, yeah! i use to have 49-50c idle with the fan running at 7500 rpm very noisy so i bought a Mexus fan controller can control the speed of 4 fans so now i got 40c idle with my fan running at 5800 rpm, i'm so happy now, i got a good temp & less noise.

i sincerely hope that , this could help some of you with the same problem.

BTW: Don't blame me if you crush your cpu die or shortout someting by touching your HSF with your fingers , i only giving that tip because some of you may have the same problem that i had so do this at YOUR OWN RISK.

so does this just bring the heat sink closer to the cpu?

What is sounds like AMD, is that your HSF did not have a good solid connection to the Core in the first place. and yes bending the clip did score ya some extra tension and pressure and will help cooling.

BUt this is not true with all HSF, if you try to do this with some , you could only end up putting tooo much pressure on the core and crack it.

what could be used instead of doing this?

Just make sure to get one that attaches firmly onto the socket within AMD specs. Most of the AMD recommended HSFs rely on spring clip to hold the base secure to the processor. Be sure to get the ones that utilize all three of the lugs on either side of the socket. Using all the lugs helps distribute the tension and weight of the whole HSF assembly over a greater area instead of just one location usually in the middle. However, there are those who do not use the socket lugs at all. Those HSFs use the four mounting holes located around the socket (on most MOBO's that is, not all have them) so there is less stress on the processor. The best ones on the market currently use this design. Hope this helps a little. I'm no Putwig.
