| i just removed the hsf, whiped off the as i put on... and now temps r 44C but when i start any app...or even try to install anything temps skyrocket to 55 it came wit taht intel stock hsf, thats has non removable fan, with no fan grille on it A57855-001 22082600 FHP-2157 Rev. M 12VDC .24A Fujikura thas what it says on bottom half on the fan top, top part has intel logo on it | ||

| Thing I know about Intels is that they CAN run hotter. Not that it's a bad thing, but they can take on heat far beyond any AMD processor. The heat sensor as far as I know is underneath the processor (on the motherboard), which doesn't exactly give you the heat from where the heatsink is. When I first installed mine I was hitting upwards of 115F (on somewhat non-stock cooling...still a cheap aluminum coolermaster HSF), which did seem bad. Not sure why it's jumping so much other than there not being much in the way of heat absorbtion from that heatsink so it jumps accordingly. You sure you got all the thermal grease off? That stuff sticks to everything, and it might get in the way... | ||

| OK, fine Clown. Go with [H] and their advice that the motherboard just reads temps too high. Then why the **** are you going to watercool it if the motherboard just reads temps too high? You should be ****ing right on the money. Right? EDIT: Didn't mean to come across that strong. But you of all people should know that most folks there are general population who post just to be seen. Here we have some guys who know what the hell they are doing. If you wish to believe that it is just your motherboard reading too high, I will be curious to see what your temps are on water. | Well, that one guy could be right, but in general the temp will always be higher when reading from MBM rather than BIOS (since you did note it increased when you ran an application). But don't sweat it, because I can gauruntee that either way it'll show a fairly high temp because Intel's are good to go at much higher temps from what's shown from winbond (since the heat spreader is, afterall, on the top and not the bottom where the thermal sensor is). | ||

| Clown, I would love to tell you that I know all there is to know about P4 cooling, and help you out. But that is not the case my friend. But P4 or not, no thermal paste is bad. Use common sense, is it causing a real noticable problem or effect ? Run it hard, try some 3Dmark, as it heats up, watch the scores and framerates. P4s throttle down as they heat up, which mean on the longer running benchmarks, or a looped benchmark, the frame rates will drop, and continue to drop as it heats up. Get a second opinion, an external thermal probe, Radio Shack sells one that is IR, or Laser, or something like that. | ||

| @ba...im going water so i can breat 3gh !!!!!!!! dur dur dur @cypre i was running sum 3d mark yesturday and a bunch of aps in background and temps were jumpin all over the place 45 to 55, 55 to 50 ...then i noticed that my temp were 50 and i started 3d mark and temp dropped to 45 ??? WTF now just started winamp, temp went up 5 degrees...theres no way cpu can heat up 5 degrees in 2 seconds..i mean reallly @icpiper im trying to get a hold of a digidoc or sumthing, but its A SNOW DAY school closed and stuff, so ya... i will try to get sum 3dmark loopage going and watch frames i also posted this in abit forums, but they didnt respond yet ![]() | ||

| Sorry Clown, but I didn't see Abit say anything in that thread. What I did see was one guy say that it was a known problem that Abit had validated. I am not saying that he isn't correct. I am saying that he isn't Abit. I have the AT7-e Max board and if anything I would say my temps are running dead on. My water cooling is up and running and last night after a good four hours of BF1942 I never topped 40C and the mobo read 38C. My external probes were 32C/26C. Like I said earlier, test it. Don't take our word, or even the word of some guy who is a member of the Abit forums, (But not an employee). Run the benchmarks, loop them, record your temps and look for performance changes that might indicate CPU throttling do to heat buildup. If it flies through a looped test for an hour and the frame rates don't drop steadily, then I would say your in good shape and the temps are off. But if the temps increase and the system slows, then your running hot. That's the best advice I have for you Clown. | ||
