| [rant: on] Funny story about space.......Ok, for Chirstmas I get a Lian-Li PC-62, thats awesome, and my old dell case was only wider enough to fit 5.25 drives. It was the Deminsion4100, I pulled the OEM motherboard out of there and put it in my Lian-Li case. (Numerous modification awaited me) Hah, I didnt get a new power supply, and the floppy power connector wasn't long enough to reach the floppy bay! Hah! But anyways, talkabout an improvment in space! Holy @!#$, yea it was pretty nice, and now everything is nice and cool, AND DUST FREE. Because, I hate dust, I hate it so so much. :[/rant: off] | ||

| Senor Cisner-Hoes | the volcano has served my purpose well on my dual athalon MP video editing, CAD, and photoshop rig. it cools very well but the noise doesnt bother me because i got an air compresser in the same room that leaks... so i cannot comment about the noise. brandon | |

| Don't do it. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I will express myself again in reguards to this mediocre cooling solution. If you already have one, and like it, well, I hope you're both happy together for as long as it lasts Ok, I am serious again now. This is why I am saying not to buy a Volcano anything; The only people that are happy with a Volcano, are the ones that have a cpu that is a cool running chip to begin with, and have never owned a HSF that is a good one. It costs about $10 more to buy one of the best there is. Even if your only using an older chip now, and a Volcano is all you think you need, what about your next chip ? Why spend $20 now, and another $30 later ? Why not just spend $30 now and be done with it. There is really no logical reason for anyone to buy this HSF when there are much better ones to choose from for very little extra money. They will cool better, with a quieter fan, and if you do need extra cooling later, just add a bigger fan. I have used stock coolers, the Noise Control Silverado ($80, duel blowers, and 50grams of silver on the base), the Alpha PAL8045, water cooling, and the Thermalright SLK-800. I can tell you that there is currently no better air-cooling solution for any Socket A / 370 / 462 CPU then the SLK-800. It is the best straight air-cooler for performance, it is not really expensive, it can take 60, 70, and 80mm fans. But don't take my word for it alone. Ask others here, and read the reviews at Newegg.com, and Overclockers.com. If you buy it, you will love it. If you buy that Volcano, you'll be buying something else latter on and you can bet on that. And when your reading those newegg reviews, keep in mind what they are using it on, the read the SLK-800 reviews and look what they are cooling with it. I can guerantee you there is not one single guy who said "I just bought this Vol 9 and it rox !, way better then my SLK " ![]() | ||

| Dam lc , I was just thinking about a new fan and this thread pops up. ![]() I have had the Volcano 7, 7+ and 9 and 9 with light mod though the last 2 have speed controllers they are super loud, I prefered the 7+ out of all of them but I broke it, I shall not buy another Volcano again , I bought them b4 I even knew PimpRig existed and was and still am a n00b, I did buy the Vantec TMD fan because I saw an article here on Pimp about them a while ago , I liked the look but it could be quieter, my next fan shall be an SLK or maybe the Exos water cooling system if I go with water but I have only heard great things about the SLK. | ||

| I complety side with Piper on this issue and have said the same many time right along with him Thermaltake Volcano Anything is a medicore cooling solution, they seem more instrested in novelity than actully science ThermalRIGHT makes some kickass solutions, the SK7 and the SLK-800 are both kickass cooilng solutions and rank 1 and 2 on overclockers.com HSF rating. Also they can be had for just about the same price as the Volcanos. 19.99 and 29.99 respectively on www.svc.com (SVC Compucycle)
WARNING! There dude...i dont know the age of your Dell...but the newer Dell OEM mobos use propriatery connectors on there mobo's and PSU's, trying to upgrade your PSU to an Antec or something else can fry your mobo......let me look into your model and find out which you have.

Yea, I know what you are talking, I think, it's an extra 4 wire connector that has blue and black wires running into it. Oh well, looks like instead of spend $100 on a new power supply, I can spend $1 on a floppy power cord extender. Thanks for the advice scapegoat.

LOL....very true.....But still be advised if you want to upgrade you PSU in the future you will need to either upgrade you mobo or get a standard Dell PSU......Although the Connectoer looks like a standard ATX connector the wireing on it is diffrent and plugging a standard ATX PSU into a dell mobo will make for some crispy critters ![]()
