Question For you with a Themalright SKL-800

Ahhh, I've just returned from the computer store with a brand new Thermalright SKL 800 I'd dearly love to install it, but the bloody diagrams on the thermalright website are not there.

Can someone give me detailed instructions on how to mount this beast so I don't bust my new AMD 2200+ and where to mount these rubber feet.

Thanks.

ive got the Sk7(nealy identical to the SKL800) have you figured out how to mount the fan on it? It has a pretty unique fan mounting system, and can be wierd if you dont know how.

Anyway after you mount the fan, and apply the thermal compound properly(follow THESE directions if you have any questions on that )

You should simple push the clips on the outside (nonledge side) down as far as they will go and in one motion attach them to the socket lugs, while macking sure the sink comes in contact with the core. Dont move or slide the sink onto the core as this will displace the compound and end in less effectivness

Then just simply grab a flathead screwdriver(be very carfull that it fits in the clip snugly , you dont want it slipping and scarring the mobo) the apply steady pressure untill the clip engages the socket lugs, and you are all set.

EDIT for typos

Pay attention to the Socket and the heatsink, it only goes on in one direction, The long part of the clip for mounting the heatsink goes onto the end of the socket that has the Cam Box.

The Cam Bos is the "Fat" end of the socket that has the lever for mounting the chip on the socket.

If you're confused by this, either look closely, you'll figure it out ok when you realize that there is only one way to properly mount the heatsink.

Otherwise, come back and ask more questions.

Scape,

What the hell are these rubber feet for? The Thermalright website mentions to attach them, but it doesn't say where (ie. orientation on the heatsink and processor).

Mine didn't come with any little "Feet" or anything like that.

Anyone else have a newer one that came with some small rubber pads or "feet" ?

I know it has to do with protecting the core, but the CPUs already have some on them, so I am not sure what the deal is.

Ahhhh Jackpot.

"Since the Thermalright SLK-800 has a narrow base, you need to install four of the eight small, non-conductive circular pads included on the corners of the base. Since this cooler was designed a bit differently it doesn't sit on the four pads that the cpu has these should be installed so that the CPU Core is not damaged in any way. "

From the 3dextreme website. makes sence now,(threw me off since the sk7 had a flat base) since the narrow base will not contact the 4 rubber pades you need to put one at each corner of the solid base

Kinda funny you would think that ThermalRight would get the hint after a while that they need to include instructions, dont get me wrong its a kickass product but every review has berated them for the lack of instuctions. ^_^

A few weeks ago I asked about wheather or not one should use a shim. Is this one of those instances where a shim would be of some help? These stupid feet look a bit thinner than the ones installed on the cpu itself.

Edit: Yes Scape. Instructions would have been a convenient feature. Especially with this pig weighing so much. I'm scared @#$%less that I'll crack the core.

Will Do.

Edit: I'm going to build the who think next weekend when I have some time to think about the layout and stuff. I'm not planning anything fancy like a window or anything. Just a nice clean rig.

I'll even post a picture if I can figure out how! (I'm serious, I can't seem to post a picture!)
