Default IDEA: Using Air Compressor for HS fan

I was just thinking how you could get extreme airflow without a fan, and then the air compressor idea came. You would have to make a special nozzle so it covers a larger surface area. Then I remembered that Thermagic crap thing I posted, and I was thinking you could use tubes like a water cooling system and then have the output go out of the computer. This what be extremely efficient since the air is flowing very fast. So, if any crazy person wants to try something like this, go for it!! You would have to have the air compressor in a different room since it makes so much noise when it sucks more air in, but that wouldn't be a problem. You could also keep the compressor outside so the air is cooler during the winter If anyone sees a major flaw in this idea that I didn't think of, please feel free to mention it.

I see two flaws, Air compressors use a lot of electricity and they are very loud.

I think it could be done.

I think you could use an all copper Maze3, use real air lines rated for high pressure, and add a nozzle at the intake to the water block, and a regulator to control the air pressure, (one for Paintball Guns could work). And then a release valve back outside to dump the hot air.

Then you will pay a higher electricity bill, and if that system fails, you will buy a new chip very fast.

Oh, and it still will not work any better then water cooling, just more expensive and riskier in different ways.

You also have to consider water in the system.... Sure they make water filters but it will not catch all water (trust me) because it can condense in the lines that are after the filter, and it will make it to the Mobo and that could/would be a big problem.. And also as they said the Electricity would be high due to the fact that while the PC was on you would almost be running the Compressor the whole time.. and you would also still have some high DB's due to the air coming out of what ever you design to direct the air... I would just invest in a nice Efficient water cooling solution and put this on the bad idea tally...

what about using something other than air to cool a radiator in a water cooled rig?

like....what if you submerged a radiator into water? like a swimming-pool or a bathtub?

I figured since we were tossing out random ass ideas I would toss that one. A friend of mine just water cooled his rig and made the joke that he was thinking of extending his water lines and tossing his radiator into the pool.

how about a turbocharger compressor. you could use a high performance rc car motor to bring it to 75000 rpm

Submerging the rad would work, but not with long tubing, still have to keep it close to the system or you create too much resistance for the pump to overcome.

Just get a decent sized fish tank no need to run to pool or bath tub...

but would the fish tank heat up faster than it would naturally cool?

Not if you have a large enough body of water, say 50Gallon tank. ^_^

Well... You could always get a mini fridge for your computer room and plumb the lines into the side of it and mount a large flat Rad to the inside-side of the mini fridge....

Sure this sounds efficent (sarcasm)
I'll put a 500gph submersable pump and rad in my 45,000 gallon 60 foot pool back at home and run 2 inch hoses to my computer 100 feet away next time I go.
I will stick with air cooling TYVM!
(soon to have a MCX4000 )

There has been some moders that have done the submersed idea and the fridge check over at overclockers.com they have a bunch of getto set ups that work, some make sense some don't.

Yup, I have read pretty much everything that they have there.

There are a great refrence site for OC work and cooling info.

TiDude would really be able to get his rox off with them. He gets so much joy out of bashing water cooling every chance he gets

From my Psych classes back in my college days, I remember that most deep rooted fears and hatreds can be attributed to early childhood experiences. TiDude, you must have been a freekin' water-baby j/k ing bro

I didn't intend for the system to be running all the time, just for OC'ing and taking screen shots, benchmarks, and temps. Just to see if the air compressor system was efficient enough to be better than water cooling that is. I would just like to see it done, don't know why though
