| Question: I have an AMD 1700+ running at stock, and a DragonOrb 3 HSF. The core temp runs 53C to 51C is it just me or is that alittle high? Mind you this is a great improvement from the retail fan that came with the chip, it ran from 60C to 65C. Just curious. ![]() | ||

| dragon orbs aren't that good, but your case flow sucks if you're running that stuff and still higher than my 2000+ w/ retail fan and the thermal blanket still in place.. Also, isn't 60-65 almost redline temps for an athlon? I know what its like having crappy front intake, my jupiter's front fan is blocked by the lcd thing... and there's an unexplainable hole between front and bottom parts of chassis. Guess they're expecting some ducting to go there. | ||

| Guys, the very best advice we have is already in the forums on cooling. There have been a few new HSF units hit the stores, but nothing that makes a hugh difference really. Your not in terrible shap, but you could be much better. If your 1700+ is a Palamino, your not really that bad off, but if that is a new 1700+ T-bred core chip, I would think that even a half assed Dragon Orb would do better then what your getting so I would start looking hard at your case airflow. | ||

| Well, my machine runs terribly hot even with all I've done to it. It's an Athlon XP 2200+. I've got 3 intake fans (2 in front, one on the side window), 2 out (in the back), all of those 80mm (see, I took your advice, lcpiper! ). I've got rounded IDE and floppy cables. A ThermalTake Volcano 9 running full blast with Artic Silver 3. And even with all that, the lowest I can get it to go at full load is 110-115 deg. F. (43-46 dec. C).. Of course, maybe the fact that I live on a tropical island where the temp practically never dips below 80-90 deg. F., and that there's no AC in this room, has something to do with it. Maybe when I go defect to Canada my temps will improve. ![]() | ||

| Gotcha Banana Boy, almost believe you. If that is what your probe is reporting, you better get a new one. You are telling me honestly that you get 34C under load with an 1800+ at 1300 RPM? Your temp sensor's are either misconfigured or you have an ambient temp of 15C. | ||

| Ok, Kat, your temps are not stellar, but your heatsink is an average performer on one of the hotest chips AMD makes, the only one hotter at stock speeds is an XP2100+ which is on the Palomino core, and you do have high ambient temps to begin with so unless your ready to go crazy over your CPU cooling, I would say your fine. Are you having any heat problems ? Shutdowns, lockups ? If not, I wouldn't worry about it. Now for Chiquita; Chiquita, what is the room temperature of your house right now ? Your running one of the coolest running AMD chips made Chiquita. You can not even begin to compare your heat burden with someone that has an XP2200+. You have the same core as Kat running at 80% of the load. And that's the easy 80%. I have told you this and you still keep ignoring it. Why on earth are you shagging on these guys when you aren't even in the same realm as they are. Damn son, I bet it's under 70F in your house. I hve pointed you to the proof at Overclockers.Com's Water Block / Heatsink Performance charts and the Volcano9 tested with a C/W rating of 0.36 at best fan speed. In comparison a Thermalright SLK-800 tested with a 0.25 C/W and lower is better. Read the review of the Volcano 9 from their site. Then read the SLK-800 review Browse through these customer reviews at Newegg.comm and notice that the only guys that really love it are the ones that upgraded from older POS Tt HSfs and Retail AM HSFs. Hemm, I don't see anyone that upgraded from an ALpha or a Swifty, or even a Thermalright. Lets look at the customer reviews for the SLK-800. Hmmm, notice any differences ? ![]() | ||
