| I'm going water cooled on my computer but I also need a new cpu fan for our family computer. I usualy dont have good luck picking my own fans so I'm looking for a very very quiet fan that will still cool good with my slk-900 hsu Any suggestions are much appreciated, thx | ||

| Isn't that an oxymoron??? I'd say get a vantec tornado and run it at low voltage. Should push more air then a "quiet" fan and will be fairly quiet if you only run 7v into it. Then you at least have the option to crank it up a bit more if needed. Panaflo "High" may also be an option, Sunon makes a similar 50-55cfm 92mm fan for around 35dba. | ||

| Any fan + rheostat = quiet fan. Either that or look at the decibal ratings.....anything under 30dBa is pretty damnn quiet. Just buy a reputable brand and you should be good to go. Personally I like these: http://sidewindercomputers.com/92clearulwit1.html A nice dBa to CFM ratio and comes completely adjustable to suit your tastes. | ||

| I also suggest the Enermax 92MM. 64CFM/34dBa, and you cannot hear it over a normal <30dB case fan in a closed case, for me anyway. | ||

| I'm using the 80mm version of that Enermax fan on my CPU heatsink right now. It's nice if you don't have a rheobus, since it comes with a potentiometer (speed selector) built in. Incidentally, I find a telephone wire clip works great for holding the speed selector in place somewhere on the inside of your case. Once you adjust it to a good noise/cooling level, you really don't adjust it much anyway. ![]() Speed selector (left), and a good clip for holding it. | ||

| True, it is a bit of an oxymoron ... I currently have a 92mm tornado and to date its fried every rheo I've givin it. Even the 2 built into my case.. When I turn it down it runs fine at a more than reasonable level for a few minutes sometimes even hours but then it starts to spaz out and goes back up to full power then quickly down and back up and so on until I just turn it all the way up and leave it there. So maybe I'd be better off looking at replacing the rheo's or installing a new one somewhere though I have 0 experience with a dremel adn soldering and so on. | ||

| A 92mm Tornado uses something like 12w, whereas most commerical "fanbusses" only give around 7w or so. Hence why they are dieing. Sunbeam has a good controller, but I think it's better (and cheaper) to just build your own. Here are some 15w rheostats for $1.65 each: http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bi...015&type=store There is a guide on how to build a fan controller with these somewhere on www.gideontech.com (they do a switch guide first, then expand that to include rheo's). Gotta love www.allelectronics.com! | ||
