Cool i'm such a n00b.

So about 3 AM last night i'm lookin' at the SLK-947 I picked up recently. Didn't come with a fan, but I've got a zalman 92mm that'll do the trick. Just one thing: I could not figure out how to mount it!

An hour later, it occurs to me to stop rotating the fan and playing with the mounting screws, and take another look in the box. Hey look! WIRE CLIPS!

so yeah. I don't know what was going on in my head, but it certainly wasn't much.

as a sidenote: anyone have this cooler? i'll be posting temps in a day or two, just wondering what to expect.

LOL! Always empty the box and look for instruction after it doesn't work.

I wouldn't trust myself with something as delicate as a heatsink that late.

And you can always do the pimp thing and duct tape it on

I'll bet if you look in the box again you'll find the instructions.

Once you hear the crunch, add a few more turns for good measure. Don't forget to use the ENTIRE tube of AS5. (Note: I'm being sarcastic)

well i got her mounted...oh wait, no i didn't.

turns out the SLK-947U is not so universal. doesn't fit any of the new A64 mobos...So i'm trying to get a refund from SVC (not hopeful though). So i've got the 7000a on there right now, which is good enough for me, and quiet enough for anyone!

expect a posting in a couple days in the trading post forum for 2 SLK-947U, never used

I just experienced something similiar to this. Apparently, the heatsink that came with my VAIO didn't have any screwholes in it to accept a fan mounting. So, they just took the fan, designed a duct for it, and used friction against the heatsink prongs with the screws to hold it on.

Damn, I'm lucky that thing didn't come off before I changed it out!
