How can we tell from that?

Post some info about:

- what fans you've got in the case;
-- ie size {60mm? 80? 92? 120?),
-- position {front panel, back, side, top} &
-- direction {sucking in or blowing out}
--+ make/model if you can),

- what case you're using, and

- what CPU heatsink & fan you're using

- what temperatures you're getting: i.e.
-- ambient (room) temp,
-- CPU & system (northbridge chip) temps at idle
-- CPU & system (northbridge chip) temps at full load

_Then_ we might be able to help you.

Welcome to PR btw

yeh yeh welcome to PR - you a brave ol' soul to have a name like that btw - its like civil war in here sometimes i tell ya.

JE has a good point. Only basic specifications are needed its more a case of what fans you have, what the CPU cooler is and and what PSU u have. also up to date temps you are getting helps an awful lot.

Also what do you intend on cooling and to what extent? Is it simply a CPU cooler change like so many threads (sorry but its true), or is it a full make over with aluminium case, ramsinks, graphics card cooler, water cooling, 120mm fans all round and a decent performing PSU to power all of that?

Hope this gives you an idea.

recommend one thing right now get rid of xp home edition if you want a good and stable OS you should try and get xp pro and you might see a big difference!!! and yes i have to agree with the others here you are talking about cooling and yet you have yet to tell us what you have in there now for cooling and what are your temps and what would you like to have!!!

I have to disagree. XP Home is an excellent OS.

The vast majority of pc users would have no use for the extra features in XP Pro. If you aren't going to use the extra features, why give Bill more money?

Edit - typos.

Putwig has a point. Although I never had Home, I can't really tell the difference between Home and Professional. Well, here's where I got my Pro edition, lowest price I could find: here

I must say I'm a bit disappointed - is no-one going to criticise me for "flaming" the poor defenceless noob?
Perhaps this'll do the trick, seeing as DW is tiptoeing in this thread

'P4 - we really do need that extra info in order to help you. What you've posted so far is akin to me signing up at a specialist car forum & asking something like:

Hi. I'm wondering if I should replace my cars tyres. My car is red, has a Peugoet XUD 1.9 TD engine, grey cloth seats, electric windows, and a Panasonic autochanger, currently filled with a mixture of Saint Etienne and Nirvana CDs.

See the problem?
