| By "jet engine like ones", i'm going to assume your referring to those coolermaster hsf's with the blower on top. They look nice (if your into that sort of thing), but don't expect much for performance. My recommendation for performance and style would be to use a thermalright Heatsink, and then shop around for a stylish fan to go on top of it (use a normal fan, not a blower), and a laser cut grill on that. Unfortunately style pretty much always comes with a loss in performance. Perhaps you could try an aluminum fan and grill? Just make sure you put a rubber between the two metal surfaces because they will probably rattle like he!!. | ||

| Hey, listen to Sparky! I took his advice on the SLK even though I was shooting for a more expensive tower model from Aerocool (I think). My CPU was running about 64C on idle with the stock heatsink from Sony and when I replaced it with the SLK (same one he's recommending to you), the temp on my CPU dropped... ....THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH!!!.... ...a whopping 20C so now it idles at 44C. No kidding. Sparky, I owe you one. For non-believers out there, the stock aluminum heat sink installed by the manufacturer (Sony, not me) was installed with thermal paste and not a heatpad. The paste wasn't that thick when I took the heatsink off so I was pretty skeptical about putting this new one on. Put it on using BA's method of thermal paste application and wha-la! 44C!!! Go with the SLK unless you can afford a water cooled system. Thanks again, Sparky. Rob | ||

| You can find a KooLance Exos for under $200 but you also have to remember there are a lot of secondary costs as well, such as the water block, hoses, cpu/vga/chipset adapters, etc. If you are only going to spend less than $200, I would personally recommend the SLK. Water cooled systems require some maintenance, replacement parts, etc. that if you are not willing to go the distance, it just isn't worth having. I would suggest the SLK until you are ready to really dish out some dough and go hardcore. Of course, there are some who have made their own water cooled system, if that's the way that you would like to go. Ask around a little bit...I even think I saw a guy on e-Bay selling home-made water cooling kits. Go with what you feel comfortable with. If it's a lower end AMD, then a hsf combo is the way to go. If you have a higher end AMD, then give serious thought to the water cooled system, home-made or otherwise. I'm a nOOb here so be sure to ask around with some of the more experienced modders and I'm sure that they'll give you a hand. Good Luck! Rob | ||

| Lokie's Personal WU-Hoe | Honestly pimps...are we trying to advocate watercooling to a person that doesn't even have coherent typing skills and previous dealing with 'good' air cooling? IP, if you do anything smart within your next decisions that have to do with computers, please do not watercool it. If you buy some cruddy kit, you're going to be baffled by its horrible performance and if you do a homemade kit then at least read the forums before asking any questions about what parts to buy and whatnot. http://www.svc.com/zacnulqucpuc.html <-- Your mobo has to have the 4 holes around the socket, and if it does, buy it. As long as you read AND follow the directions, it's n%b proof. | |

Thats no problem man, but i cant take full props cause someone once recommended it to me. As far a buying a kit for watercooling i cant totally recommend that for the simple reason that you can achieve just as good of temps with a good Heatsink and fan as most kits out their. The only reason you should go water imo, is if you want uber great temps coupled with a great overclock. How can this be achieved? Refer to Zenzzo's post and buy quality components (not a kit). I have yet to see a good water cooling kit out there that can beat out my slk and tornado fan. Im not dissing water coolin all together, because i know that a new tdx dangerden block, coupled with a black ice res, and a kickin pump will own me, but i have yet to see that sold as a kit for around the 200 dollar price range. BTW ive also owned the Zalman, and it kicks ass. Its super quiet and cools well. I wanted better oc's and better temps so i went with much louder and much cooler, but its a little smaller than the zalman. If you want quiet while having the peace of mind to know that your processor is nice and cool than id suggest the zalman. If you want a great overclock and dont care if your hearing is shot at the age of 30 than id suggest the slk-900a coupled with the vantec tornado 92mm. Just my .02 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | Right now im running a Cooler Master Aero7+ (ASB-V73) but i removed the normal thermal pad on it and applyed a thin layer Shin-Etsu G751 to the heatsink using tape to mark of then dragged accross a thin layer using a credit card. Once the Shin-Etsu had cured properly i have idle temps at 40c diode and 37c socket and 45c under load (playing Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory for about 4 or 5 hours) which for an easy to find cooler aint to bad. | |

| despite what others think, i actually like my volcano 7+, im getting really good temps for being air cooling, the noise can be turned down for when you arent gamng, and it can be had for dirt cheap anymore, also solid copper.... idle temps with a 1.825vcore on a barton 2500 running at 11x200 [2.2ghz] 3200+ speed are: idle @ 24C ambient : 34C @ 6000rpm load @ 24C ambient: 42C @ 6000rpm idle @ 24C ambient : 36C @ 4000rpm load @ 24C ambient: 44C @ 4000rpm idle @ 24C ambient : 38C @ 2000rpm load @ 24C ambient: 46C @ 2000rpm | ||

| ThermalTake does not count as a good heatsink, Fu3l... ![]() For an easy install go with the SLK-900A, however if you have heatsink mounting holes on your board go with an SP-97. Couple either HS with a decent 50CFM+ 92MM fan and your set. ![]() | ||
