| Lokie's Personal WU-Hoe | ...Or not Here's the sweet delectable goodness of what happens when a computer is just simply a computer...and nothing more. This is just a prime example of how maintenance isn't considered when people buy a computer. Perhaps like a car, where a mechanic is needed after a while. Games were running sluggishly randomly, along with some normal tasks even when the fan kicked into normal mode. Problem was fixed after a good air compressor blow out and some Ceramique applied after a good cleansing of the waxy crap that was on there, along with hooking the blasted fan up to the PSU instead of that thermally controlled port. Enjoy the pictures! | |

| Lokie's Personal WU-Hoe | Nah, just a friends family computer. Helped them out in just about every way possible software wise, although nothing seemed to do the trick. Browsed around the outside of the case and noticed dust overflowing out of it, so I decided to take the plunge and open it up. Needless to say, I wasn't surprised...but it was just what I had guessed. BTW, yes the HS is completely caked in dust, allowing for no air to pass through. Putwig: It's from a Compaq Presario 5000 desktop computer. Seems to be almost good in design, perhaps a review is in order after someone orders a "Compaq Spare #XXXXX" hehehe. | |

| Lokie's Personal WU-Hoe | Now that I cleaned out their machine, my friends father is a bit pessimistic about what I've done and doesn't think the HS fan should be running all the time. He's probably going to call some tech support or the like, and I hope to God he gets a knowledgeable one to talk to. "Hello sir, my sons friend came over and cleaned out and fixed our PC. He also plugged the heatsink fan in so that it is constantly running. Is this bad for the computer?" Hopefully there isn't an answer that goes against my favor on this one in case he does call tech support. haider-Buy some aluminum filters from mnpctech.com for all your intake fans. I'll be doing a review on these soon, have had them for about two weeks now and they seem to be working quite well. | |

| Give me their phone number Kage: "Hello, this is Tom from TekkPC, I heard from my associate Kage that you wonder why you're computer's CPU fan should be running?" "I'll break it down in to layman terms for you: Computers run at high frequencies and in turn create heat and noise, this is inevitable. In order to prevent the processor from reaching unacceptable operating speeds, one must cool it." That should be easy enough to understand. | ||

I'll wait for your review then, i live in the UK so the delivery would be a bitch if these things didn't work properly. plus that thing would look but ugly on my window fan, i could cover up my 4 other intake fans though.

| Lokie's Personal WU-Hoe | Another close encounter! Went over to a friends house to install a 2500M and Zalman 7000AlCu, and this is what was found after removing the TT HS! Temp readings were very high, 50C-60C in the bios prior to installing the new hardware. Once everything was hooked up, temp readings went down to ~30C...imagine that The pictures are exactly how they came off the motherboard. | |

I've seen quite a few like that in my time too...one was so caked with dust the CPU fan couldn't move. (OEM AMD) After cleaning, the fan worked reasonably OK...I installed a new one anyway. Last edited by Joose; 08-June-04 at 02:17 PM..

I had to clean a computer out once that had totally died, opened it up and there was so much cigarette tar in the case that it had jammed the HSF. That was not a good day for me, hands were that nasty orangy brown for a long time.
