Default Appropriate AMD Temps

Just installed a AMD 2500 XP with stock HS anf Fan (small little fan). What are appropriate temps for this with the stock equipment? This is my first AMD machine and would like to know. And trust me, it wont be stock for more than a week

Expect temps in the 40s-50s.

yeah, on boot in bios it showed 45C. thought that was a little warm. i know AMD runs high, i know with stock it will run higher.. guess i am also spoiled by my WC on my intel rig.

I always thought that the stock that comes with the retail version processor from AMD is quite nice. It's very quiet, quite a bit better than the Zalman that I have in my other rig, and small. It's also much easier to install. What are you going to replace the stock with? And, btw, you should give me the stock cooler .

With AMD anything under 60 is OK, with stock I'd say 40's idle 50's load.

The cooler that came with my 2500+ was awsome for size/noise level.

actually...your computer will run fine at 60+ degrees.

It hit warmer weather down here, and with no case fans my family comp. (1800+ not O/C)was running at 64c at a moderate (50-60%) load. no problems at all. well, except the heartburn i was getting looking at it.

btw: finally talked the 'rents into getting a fan after showing them some numbers...adding just 1 case fan lowered load temps 12 degrees c.

i'm running an AMD 2800 w/ stock fan and it's been running between 35C and 40C, hasn't gotten much up over 40 even under a large work load.

You need to consider most software monitoring can be off quite a bit from the actual temps measured by a Thrermal Probe.

They use a "Calculation" to come up with your temperatures, not an actual reading. That is why for instance, The NF-7S had a major drop in temps when a newer bios came out last year when I had one.

AsusProbe is also known to read on the high side of things, what software monitoring is good at is measuring temperature change...
If you overclock and go up 10 degrees by raising the voltage to 1.8v instead of the stock 1.6v, it will tell you how much it changed (also known as a performance Delta) if it becomes unstable then, you will know the temperature threshold of your computer for reference purposes.
I know if my DFI Lan Party and Mobile 2500+ hits 1 degree above 55c, it's going to lock up! the same CPU and HSF on a Shuttle AN35N Ultra would go to almost 60c before lock up.
(Using Motherboard Monitor)

They make a inexpensive probe called CompuNurse, Under 20$ if you realy want to check out your actual die temps

no kiddin'? Yeah, I live in Allen, not so far from you. I was up till 3:00 watching scary movies with my friends. A couple of those thunderstrikes were either really badly or really well timed, depending on how jumpy you are

Well hidy hoe there neighbour welcome to AMD! With a stock anyhting between 40-60 is good. Ive used a couple retail packs with AMD - simply because it sometimes saves me a few £. Obviously the whole dynamics (wow long word!) of the case can change the temperature - a large video card, no case fans, messy clabling, an atx mobo cord going right over the cooler will soo have you cooking on some serious gas.
