Default HDD cooling

Is HDD cooling very beneficial for 7200rpm drives (in particular for SATA)?

Since i dont think ppl can OC their HDD, at what point is cooling actually required?

Well it depends, if you have just one HDD then no, but if you have multiple HDD then yes it would be beneficial for HDD life.

I have a raptor - that thing can get really warm without cooling (from the reviews Ive read). Its cheap insurance if your case supports fans in the hard drive bay. Mine has a place for an 80 mm fan - like 5 bucks and a little more noise.....not a big deal for me. I also have a 160 GB 7200 rpm drive in there as well - both stay really cool.

I would have to say that if your hard drive is creating alot of heat inside your case, then a hard-drive cooler would be very benneficial. A hd cooler would definately expand the life of your hard drive. I have a 160 gig 7200 rpm hd, and I need a cooler on it to keep my computer running at optimum speeds. If you think that your hard drive is causing a large heat increase in your computer case, then I would get one.

a 80mm fan blowing air on my 160gb keeps it cooler, and is just a bit extra insurance on my data.
