| Alright, heres the deal, i've already ordered a HSF and some thermal compound (Volcano 10+, and that Ceramique stuff). so thats on the way. Well, actually the HSF is here, but i can't get it because the post office is closed till tuesday morning! and the grease should be here around then also. I got this because i recently downloaded and installed Motherboard Monitor 5 and it said my CPU was running at *gasp* 81C!!! So, i panicked and went out and bought stuff off newegg. I know, its not the "best" HSF out there, but its better than the stock stuff i have now. What i'm asking is though, what temperatures are the ones that i need to pay attention to in MBM5? My bios says my computer doesn't get over 69, yet MBM has it at 81, while there are 2 other temperatures that read 63 and 127 (yes, those are both Celsius, even the 127...) i have no clue what those are for. And, i also have a very, very, very crappy PC Chips M848ALU board (who cares that it supports 400Mhz ram, it still sucks big time) Just thought i'd share how "hot" my computer is ![]() | ||

| my motherboard is a PC Chips M848ALU. And yes, those are Celsius readings. My BIOS has me running at 68 or so when it sits there for like 10 minutes. and AMD says the Highest degrees celsius for my CPU (AMD Athlon XP 2800+, i believe its a Barton core...) is around 85-90....i just think thats way, way, way, way too hot... What are some other monitor programs out there? Just seems odd, since my computer has NEVER been overheated, and if it is running at 80C it should be dead | ||

| Direct Cool Hoe | Here ya go do the conversions with this, once you get the sensors dialed in... http://www.soc.duke.edu/~garyt/temp.html your case temps are not 260F belive that... | |

| Definetly...water boils at 100C so there's no way... Sticking your hand into your case, according to the sensor, should therefore sear your skin off. I had the same problem on my old Soyo mobo when I first got mbm5. Was just a matter of getting the sensors sorted out. You should also have pretty accurate readings in your BIOS. I used those temps to match up the case/CPU sensors to the right readings in MBM5. There was always one reading that was incredibly high at all times though...never did figure out what it was...if anything. | ||

| yeah, i really think that case reading is pretty umm... false. and being that my computer has cold air conditioned air coming onto it from our huge air conditioner (as opposed to anything else) my case always feels really cold. Oh well...at least i know the CPU reading is right, just about 63-70 is what my BIOS says. still can't wait to get the new HSF in there ![]() | ||

How Do You Know ? Also, What Other Temperature Readers Are out there ? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| A few issues here. First off, in most cases, instead of frying something, you will experience other milder heat related problems first. System lock-ups and such after an hour or so of operation. Of course this varies depending on the severity of the problem. Next, MBM5 has to be configured properly for your mobo, no way around that. So go to the web-site and do your home work so you know that your board is supported and what the correct settings are. Last, most motherboards will idle the CPU when you enter the BIOS, but not all, some will actually load the CPU. You need to know that it is a possibility that your temps, as reported in the BIOS, are loaded temps and on the hot side and not what most people would assume, idling on the cool side. It makes a difference in whether you will believe you have a problem. Oh, and a little common sense, Your system sits in a well cooled area, has good ventelation, "balanced" intake and exhaust with sufficient volume for cooling, etc, etc.. No symptoms of a heat problem other then what MBM5 told you. So is there anything else that would lead you to believe that you have a heat problem ? I ask these things to get you to take a different approach to troubleshooting and correcting problems. I have learned the hard way that making hasty assumptions can be very costly. It just takes two things, knowledge of how things work, and some patience in thinking things through. Good Luck, and I hope you like your new HSF when it gets in, they look decent even if they aren't top performers ![]() | ||

| Yes, the motherboard is correct. don't worry about that. I've done that two or three times. After thinking about it, my computer is in a very controlled state and it's pretty damn cold down there. I needed a new HSF anyways, i always compete with my roommate, and We can always hear his, so its time to hear mine now. Haha. Plus, i like getting new stuff. I plan on getting bunches of new stuff this summer ![]() Thanks everyone who posted, i really appreciate it! | ||
