Default Well.... Crap

I switched from Speedfan to MBM5 for the extra options.......

turns out Speedfan was giving my case temp instead of my processor temp.

I now run at 44C under load instead of an assumed 38C... just thank god I wasn't overclocking at the time.

Anyways, I'm in the market for a new high power heatsinkfor my Athlon XP 2600+. Was thinking of the SLK-947U or an SP-97 with one of my 92mm tornados on it... since it'll be buried inside a full AT tower it shouldn't be that loud........ right? It's either that or stick with what I've got (Stock for 2500+ Barton), or go with a CNPS7000A-Cu. I want something high in the cooling, but I think I'm going to start trimming down on the case noise a little bit, maybe put a tornado on the heatsink but nowhere else, or some such. Any recommendations?

I'd go with the Zalman assuming it'll fit your mobo. As far as I'm concerned, one really loud fan is one really loud fan too many.

well, I'd like to spend around $40 (I'll accept less), but I'm also going to have to replace those tornados if I want this beast quiet. Maybe some creative ducting and some nice fans of a brand someone could recommend for me that aren't too loud would work. since it's going in a full AT tower, it'll have plenty of room for heat dissipation as long as I can get the air moving.

I've been experimenting with putting a bigger fan on a heatsink (amongst other things) ... I'm working a writeup for the Daily Disturbance section, but I think I can give you a clue:

I believe it's a large fan with a duct on it that angles it so that it eliminates the dead spot in the middle of the fan. Correct me if I'm wrong, fellow Jonny

You're just about there - it's a 21dB(A), 78cfm 120 fan on a 120-80 adaptor, on a 45 degree angle doodad .... on a cheap Q-tec heatsink, on generic thermal grease
