| Hi, Well ive got 4 fans (80mm) and i recently got my new system up and running, the thing is to cool my overclocked chip i have a Volcano 12 and the only problem now is i cant fit x2(80mm) fans at the back, bcos of the HSF being so damn big. @ the moment i have: Side= Intake Front 2 = Intake Only Exhust is the psu ( which hasn't got a fan @ bottom, just holes ) Now i want to be able to turn off @ least 2 of the fans at night so i can sleep ![]() So what would be my best way of having it cool in case, as current case temp is : 40oC cpu: 34oC Ty, Cool_dude | ||

| yeh front mounted fans are a real bugger some times - i dont have any personally, keeps the dust out and the noise to the rear of the PC. You could get a card slot exhaust fan - I have one of these next to my FX 5200 - keeps everything cool at minimal noise. Also try the fan adapter that mounts onto the PC card slots, and can be placed over the heatsink on the CPU -not sure what they're called, but that will reduce the noise level again. failing that, there always the noise dampening foam, however this is a last resort for me - the foam is a sucker for dust collecting - u just cant get it out. the temperatures you state are pretty decent, and sacrificing a few degress for some piece and quiet i think will be worth your while. | ||

The air will come in by itself - it has to basically! the fans at the back (well the exhust fan and PSU fan) will pull air out of the system, allowing fresh air to come in the front or bottom vents by itself. I only have 1 of the exhaust fans for my graphics card, but I cant see why a 2nd cant be used - 1 next to the graphics card, one at the bottom of the case to keep a cool supply of air coming in through the front. Unless you have a lian li, cheiftech, or antec case, most give very little ventilation for fans mounted on the front. Unless you have one of these cases, I can see why noise would be such a problem - air is forced through a tiny gap which really isnt worth 2 fans.

That's called negative pressure - not always the best way to cool a system. I prefer (and most of the other guys here too) a system with positive pressure, i.e. more blowing than sucking. (man, that can really be taken outta context, huh? )I would mount the fans on the back as putwig said, and keep the fan on the side. You could also build/buy a baybus to control the fans individually.

Another vote for putwig's suggesstion here
Try running them at 7v instead - plug the +ve wire from the fan into the 12v (yellow) wire on a Molex connector, & the -ve fan wire to a 5v (red) Molex wire.
"Case temp"? Are you sure that's not the system temp, i.e. the temp of the Northbridge chip? If those temps are correct, you seriously need some better airflow in there. ![]()

Fan adaptors are a good idea ![]()
What sort of foam have you been using? The foam sold as sound dampening material is closed cell ... you might get a bit of dust on the surface, but that'd be easy enough to get off.

| I Open The Side Panel That Manages to Get a couple Of oC's Off. If i decide i want to, i might go ahead and MOD a case, ( look on thread in case modding [case 1 ] ) Also, the case im going to be modding will have a 80mm Acting as an Exhust, 120mm ( front ) as intake, And possibly x1 exhust on the side panel. ( should it be exhust/intake ? ) | ||

| I know this may be a off the wall idea, but you could turn the computer off at night...
Make it an intake, to have positive pressure as Joose suggested. That way you have 2 fans blowing fresh air into your case, and 1 (+psu?) blowing it out.

| Ok, Ive managed to put 1 80mm fan @ the back ( inside )Lol, dnt ask me how ![]() Anyway, my current System temp is 40oC again, but ive turned a fan off... With the fan on i get about 36-38oC... Is this normal + My Cpu is: 35oC ? @ the mo i got : 1x80mm - intake , 1x 80mm exhust. And another intake (80mm) turned off. | ||

| Is your cpu temp under full load and recieving those temps or just regulare usage? If just under regular usage thats not bad but nor is it great by anymeans. If it is under 100 percent usage thats pretty good temps for air imo. Youd also probably do a little better on your exhaust if your brave enough to whip out your dremel and cut a hole in the top for your 80mm fan. Heat does rise and if your suckin it out before it becomes stale and not very tasty any more your temps will improve. REMEMBER that if you do descide to cut a hole, take all of your components out. | ||

| I know exactly the best way you can test it under full load then! Go here and download the program and run it for a couple of hours and then continue to run it for about 1 year to be exact and donate all the points you get for using this program to team #596 (thats pimprig playa). If you can beat my temps of 32C with air at full load then ill tell you good job.....i might even say really good job.....hehe im jkin. But seriosly start folding for humanity and pimprig right away. Not only are you trying to save humanity by doing so but you can also see how good of a cooling setup you have. | ||

| ummmm buttplug? hehe umm i think your talkin about the little red circle (genome) lookin fell in the bottom right hand of your screen. If so if that little guy is there than the program is running. Just make sure you entered 596 for the team. Also check by ctrl+alt+del and check out your performance meter. If shes cookin out a haggard tune at 100 percent all the time you are now fighting cancer, and blah blah blah. Hope this helped if not get a hold of me on msn messenger and ill help more. | ||

| Also, ive spoken to a lot of people and they are saying that my temps are supposed to be the other way round, coz at the mo my temps are Cpu : 38oC system: 41oC ive got x1 80mm intake, and 1x80mm Exhust. This is really bugging me, i think the temps are tooo high. Ive spoken to this guy, and he has overclocked to the same everything as me... but he has his temps CPU: 40oC SYS:22oC he also has 5 case fans (80mm) and a fan controller ( set on the lowest setting ) Is this a DFI mobo problem, or is it just me ? My pc is kinda loud, and i dont want o turn any more fans in.... | ||
