| I upgraded to an Intel Q6600 a while back. I tried the stock Intel heatsink and fan... ![]() So I tried the Gemini II, did ok, but I was hitting a load temp of 63° on one core! So I could not find the TR true, bought another TR heatsink, SI128. It does pretty good for a light overclock, mounts with screws instead of the dang plastic stuff! So, Fed Ex shows up with my nice new ThermalRight True 120 Black... Nice looking. Pretty easy to install, I need to be smart like Slay and cut part of my mobo tray off so I don't have to pull it out to change the heatsink. I love This heatsink! One 120mm fan on the True... Temps are, well they were 63°C at load before, my screenshot is also at load, same ambient temp. If you are having cooling issues with a Quad and want to cool with air, get the damn ThermalRight True. It just freaking works. E | ||

| I like the "Black" edition of the ultra 120 extreme, but yes it is the best, The Noctua is quieter with the same performance though. I got the Noctua and two of there silent fans for 80 bucks, the Thermalright Ultra 120 is 80 bucks without a fan. | ||

| I figured I would bring this thread back. I have two Q6600 machines that fold 24/7. One is my main rig that has a thermalright ultra 120 extreme, does a fantastic job of keeping temps in check. The other machine is a different story. I had originally been running the intel boxed heatsink that came with my Q6600. That cooler is worth less than the metal it's made of. I am running stock speeds at stock voltage and I was seeing core temps upwards of 68C (even after using AS-5 tim). I was getting random shutdowns that turned out to be the bios thermal protection kicking in when I ran folding. So I just recently upgraded the HS to the Zalman CNPS9700. Main reason being it would fit in the smaller case of this machine better than the ultra 120 would. I have to say that the Zalman unit doesn't cool as well as the ultra 120 but it is a very good alternative. I have had folding running for roughly 35 minutes and the highest temp I have seen is 57C. A 11C drop in max temp is nothing to sneeze about though and has made the purchase worth while. I just figured I would throw my 2cents worth in as this may be another option for some of you that have slightly less room in their case. Specs being I am not comparing apples to apples. I think the Zalman would start to loose to the thermalright if I was running comparible cpu speeds. System 1 evga 780I with Q6600 @ 2.8ghz Thermalright ultra 120 extreme Noctura NF-P12-1300 120mm fan running on the medium speed reducer. Windows xp Max temp shown by Everest is 60C System 2 evga 630I with Q6600 @ stock 2.4ghz Zalman CNPS9700 with stock fan full speed Linux Ubuntu 7.1 Max temp shown with KDE system guard is 57C | ||
