Default need some advice

i recently burned out my processor wile trying to use a siver thermal compound. i found the reason to be that my heatsink is so hard to get cliped in to place. and i slid the compound over a good deal of the processor. compleating an electrical circuit. what can i do to prevent that on my next processor

Use the appropriate doseage of thermal compound or use non-conductive compound, such as Artic Silver Ceramique http://www.arcticsilver.com/ceramique.htm

The correct size of conductive compound as dispensed from applicator is the same as a single, uncooked grain of rice.

Here are instructions in depth: http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_s...structions.htm

Don't use lots of Silver next time, I started with Ceramique when I was a n00b, ceramique is good because you can dab lots of it on and not burn up, while with Arctic Silver you can't use too much, more than you're supposed to will actually make it run hotter, and you have to watch out because of electrical conductivity.

Waaay to much thermal compound on there buddy. It should be applied sparingly and scraped with a credit card or the like before placing the heatsink. With thermal compound less is more for achieving the best thermal transfer.

you dont have to smear it all over, just abit on the chip in the middle and that will do it.

Are you even sure it was the TIM and not something else. Most good thermal greases are specifically made to not conduct electricity, especially a high-end product like Arctic Silver, because of their close proximity to electrical equipment.

i'm also not entirely sure.you were blaming the thermal grease.because it can be difficult.to read someone's post.when they type like this.am i dyslexic or just focking lazy¿
