Default Gigabyte GA-7N400

Alright, this is a motherboard my family bought for my little brother, but the fan on the chipset died on it (the one that says 8X AGP). So, my dad went out and bought him a new motherboard. What i'm thinking is if it is only the little fan that crapped out, can i just install a Blue Orb fan or something like that (a video card heatsink/fan) and it'll run again? The board still runs fast, its just that whenever it sees a 3D graphic it farts out. Just wondering if this'll work...of course, this will only work as long as the power from the board isn't the culprit...because if it is, then i think i'm screwed...

Oh well, thats my plan, its that or fork over the 100 bucks for this card...

any help y'all can give would be great.

Ya that should work great just as long as that is the problem your having. Remember when installing it though to take your time and do it right the first time. Also remember some thermal paste wouldnt hurt the project either. Hope thats the problem cause thats a good board imo. Good Luck, and welcome to PR!

What would be the best heatsink/fan combo for this thing? A thermaltek crystal orb or a vantec one...i'm all confused when it comes to this stuff. I am a Tech Hoe Newbie or something like that...

Thanks for all the help guys.

Pick up a new chipset HS, it includes the fan and is probably better than the one you have now.

My suggestion goes out to this one: http://www.svc.com/thermaltake-nb1.html

Make sure you get some thermal past also...The Ceramique is recommended by me also

or instead of spending $20 you could just buy a new little fan...or just get one of those passive Zalman chipset heatsinks. Both are only a few bucks and it doesn't sound like you're overclocking, so there isn't any reason to shell out.
