hi i have a 12v fan in my pc with red and a black cable that is running off the system plug on the motherboard but can i put the red into the yellow cable on the harddrive and the black into the black on the harddrive or the red into red and black to black

i have 1 fan plugged in to my harddrive with a Molex Connector that was on the fan when i got it but can i put a second 1 in

Youd want to plug it into the yellow, your fan would be a little slow on the red due to that being only 5v. I dont really like to split power off of my drives so i usually extend my psu wires so that i can have one line for my drives and one for lights/fans and such. You should be fine though.

EDIT: If your careful and depin your molex connector and then resolder the pin onto both fan power wires you should be straight.

Welcome to pimprig ian1...
the molex connector that runs off the PSU that has 4 wires
(yellow 12vt)
(black ground)x2
(red 5vt)
if you have a 12vt fan with red (+) and black (-) wires they can be hooked up to the yellow and black on the molex yes. that is the correct set-up for getting 12vt to that fan...hope that helps ya...

Most fans now a days come with three wires leading into them. 12v, Ground, and sensor. If your fans do not have this third wire then your not gonna be able to know at what rpm there running at. As far as it not monitoring the temps, it could be that your motherboard does not have those options. Give us a list of your components that you have currently installed.

To get temps you will need a thermal probe, with an LCD screen to read what the temps are.

He has speedfan 4.09, which if im not mistaken is a program to monitor basically all rpm's and temps. The only probelm is hes not seeing his temps and only one of his fans showing activity through this program. My guess is hes probably got an outdated or a cheaper motherboard that doesnt support temp montitoring much less rpms of fans. Oh BTW unless you have your fans hooked up to the motherboard jumpers specifically your not gonna see there rpms.

First off getting the newest version of this program (since the author has fixed some glitches) might be the best way to go. What type of computer do u own and run. The more info u can give us on this matter the more we can help. I dont even use this program so i really dont know of any others. Speedfan also has a forums page that might be helpful. Chances are someone else has experienced these problems.

Well if the dead one was gutted the dead spot would be reduced, but to ghetto.

My advise would be get a 92 to 80mm fan adapter to reduce the dead spot and a good boost in cooling.

or you could go with a squirrel-cage type fan. no dead spot.
