Default A8N32-SLI heatpipe cooler...works?

im planning on buying a A8N32-SLI motherboard...but i was wondering if the heatpipe with the fan work well enough to not need a aftermarket thing (i have watercooling with a northbridge block.) im gonna be doing overclocking as well, so would it matter for the chipset to be very cool? or is the heatpipe thing that comes with it good enough? if it is i plan to just watercool the cpu and video cards.

Are you talking about the squirell cage fan that attaches to the mosfet part of the heatpipe?
My M2N32-SLi Deluxe has one of those (there are 2 places to mount, but only one fan) although I have never used it.
I have noticed that my southbridge was getting hot to the point of burning you if you held your finger there long enough, but I can likely attribute that to the fact that my mobo was laying flat on a testbench thus nullifying at least part of the heatpipe's effect.
So I spent the afternoon putting my rig back into a case so I could potentially get batter gains on a RAM review I am working on.

yeah, its the one with 2, for the southbridge and northbridge. it may get hot, but is there really a need for it to be kept very cool, for better overclocking/stablity/etc.?

Well, I think it really depends on if you want to squeeze that extra few MHz out of your board.
But like I said, I put my mobo back into a case to see if it will help with the southbridge, I just haven't put the CPU back in yet.
I want to do some tests with the X2 that should be here monday, but it would make me a little late getting my review in on time.
