| Hey, I'll be making a case switch soonto a NZXT Adamas and before I do this I wanted to get a new, quieter CPU cooler. Performance comes second for me this time around. I have an Intel P4 540 3.2Ghz Socket 775 and I'm looking to spend around $40. I've been looking around myself but just wondering if I could get any input from you guys. Thanks, RRW | ||

| For 35$ the Zally 7700 is whisper quit and cools well, but it is a bit large, so make sure you have room. Newegg.com - ZALMAN CNPS7700-CU 120mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan - Retail Any Zally is going to be pretty damn quiet, the 9500 and 9700 are a bit more money but are among the top rated for performance and being quiet. Newegg.com - Once You Know, You Newegg You can sort by Decibel level, fan size, price range etc..using the advanced search at Ne Egg, make sure read customer reviews! | My suggestion. The ninja is better - but... really I can't see the 1100 letting you down. ADD: Zalman's offerings were great but compared to what's available anymore. Not really. silentpcreview.com | Everything about Silent / Quiet Computers <-- good source of info on silent computing. | ||

| The "Big Typhoon" is another you might add to your list, I realy like it..cools well with the stock fan and is quiet, and realy rocks the temps if a higher CFM fan (But still reasonably quiet) is added. Newegg.com - Thermaltake CL-P0114 120mm CPU Cooler with Heatsink - Retail | ||

| You could also try picking up a NH-U9 from noctua, they perform well and you can pick one up at Noctua NH-U9F High Performance Cooler for about 50.00 including one of Noctua's fans, which are almost inaudible. So what is the price of silence to you? I have one set up on my bros p4 2.5ghz, and it keeps it real cool. Also the Scythe mine is an awsome performer. | ||

Good suggestion, but if youve got the room go for the NH-U12F. Its bigger, and a couple of degrees better. In fact if you talk really sweet ill sell one ive got layin around. Its brand new never used, and comes in the retail box. However it doesnt come with a fan, sorry.

| I was looking at the heatsink rating at overclockers.com and I noticed that the XP-90C is still a very good performer and goes for ~$40. I have the XP-90 and it did a great job cooling my 630 @3.75GHz. With my current 945 it still does a good job but I need to improve the case temps (and get a more powerful PSU, the 550W can't handle an overclocked dual core and an overclocked nVidia 800GTS). | ||

| Thanks a lot guys! I looked at a lot of them and I like the Noctua even though its a little more than I wanted to spend, the mine cooler has also got my attention. I'm going to keep looking and probably buy something tomorrow, clearance is something I just thought of, my case has 2 120mm right on the side where the cooler would be and I want to make sure there's enough room to fit a tower so I was looking at the Thermaltake. Thanks again. Last edited by RedRozeWolF; 05-March-07 at 09:40 PM.. | ||

I like the noctua its pretty, only reason i suggested the NH-U9 is because its cheaper, the NH-U12 is quite a bit over your price point however its worth it!!! Then again if you want tottally silent and your willing to put the dough up for go H2o...

| Yeah, I thought about water but it's kinda pricey and I don't think the maintenance would suit me well. I saw a CPU only Thermaltake kit for about the same price as the Noctua U12F but I figured quality was probably spared for that price. This: Thermaltake Silent Water Liquid Cooling System | ||

| I've been busy during the week but I was looking around Silentpcreview.com for a while and got a few links, read a lot about a lot, and made up my mind before I checked the clearance of the case. And that made me frown, I don't have much room, (see picture below) and there's a 120x120x25mm fan on the side panel right above where the cooler would be, which also blocks part of the rear exhaust fan which I don't think is smart. ![]() | ||

| I finally got the Master Samurai installed and running, its so quiet and Everest is reading my idle temps at ~35C. I made the amateur mistake of putting too much TIM on at first but it was an easy fix. Now that I know it runs well I have to get everything in there secure and set so I can finally set it up in its new home. And there's just enough clearance from the side fan, about 1.5cm. Now, is that a good thing to have 2 fans blowing onto the CPU like that? Thanks everybody. | ||

| having two fans blowing in different directions through a cooler normally isnt an ideal situation. The cooler normally has a flow its made to use. But with the andy samurai, its a top blowing fan, so if you talking about the fan directly accross from it on the side of the case, thats fine, just so the case fan and the CPU fan don't have completely different flow rates (i.e. 120cfm, 40cfm) | ||
