| i have this monitor, its currently running on DVI for my computer. i plan to get a DVI y cable and this and connect my PS2 component cable to it. would this setup work, as i know there are different kids of those plugs, like RBG and the Y/PR/BR (or whatever.) this should work right? also is there any kind of adapter i can get to use component/svideo with my VGA plug? (im not using it) | ||

| Not sure if it would work or not to be honest, but j-dogg is correct in a way. Digital and analog are not intercompatible without a converter (not just an adapter). As far as I know, there are no devices made at this time for that specific purpose on a computer. | ||

| While SOME component audio/video cables are digital (YCbCr), others (YPbPr) are not. Digital uses only 1 cable while analog uses 3. Edit: While analog component cables will give you better sound/picture than analog composite cables, they are still analog. I kinda think of them along the lines of Monster Cable or Phoenix Gold interconnects versus Radio Shack brand interconnects.... just higher quality analog. | ||

| alright man. thats what i was thinking, about the YCbCr and YPbPr. but now i know that component isnt digital. guess ill have to shell out $80 for a adapter...think id matter if i get one that adapts component to VGA or DVI? | ||

| that monitor probably supports sync on green (aka component video) so you could try a vga breakout cable and the associated adapters. you would need a vga to component breakout cable or a vga breakout cable and 3 bnc to rca adapters. HP doesnt spec if the monitor does sync on green so you would probably want to get the cables locally from someplace they lets you return stuff if you want to give it a try or you might have the adapters already or know a junk hordeing geek who has them. with all the scaling options it has integrated it probably does it. you would then set the PS2 to spit out progressive for a 16:9 display. although it will probably look ugly with 480p scaled on that lcd | ||

Well, at least not if the "component" cable is the red, green and blue style. The single component video IS digital.
$80 is likely cheaper than the Sony adapter just posted (but Sony might surprise me, you never know until you check). Since the signal is still analog it wouldn't matter TOO much, but if the DVI style adapter is around the same price or lower I would go with it. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
