Default building a new rig for my bro

so my brother finally decided it's time to replace his HP with a real gaming rig. i picked out some parts and want some opinions since i am an AMD noob:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+(65W) Windsor 2.0GHz Socket AM2 Processor Model ADO3800CUBOX - Retail

ASUS M2N4-SLI Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

OCZ Gold 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2G8001GK - Retail

Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600JS 160GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

just cus he is strapped for cash he is going to use his PCI video card from his HP until he can afford to get a good PCI-E card and SLI power supply. i am going to give him the extra case, cd burner, and power supply i have so he can get by for now.

Looks good. You might wanna save some money and pick up an OEM (No cooler) version of the processor and save about $40.

Also what kind of graphics card does he allready have? It could be that you could pick up some onboard graphics that perform better. I know my integrated 6100 was better than my old FX5500.

true, oem would give me the option to get a better HSF.

his card is a PCI GeForce MX4000. he is going to get a pair of PCI-E cards to run SLI when he gets his tax return though, this is just to get him going.

my big question is with this being only a 2.0Ghz processor will still be a good performer? i really don't know jack about AMD processors except that they are better for gaming (in most people's opinions anyway)

Na, go intel their current line of processors are far better for gaming...
Also, try to make the rig as Vista ready as poss. as he will more likly be upgrading soon as it comes out at the end of the month.

Whats the budget look like?
