Default Help recommend me some memory...

I'm going to 2GB, and I want to get PC6400 stuff. At the moment there are several kits that have caught my eye, but I'm not sure which to get as they're all roughly the same price.

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC)

OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-6400 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2 (OCZ2P800R22GK)

G.Skill 2GB DDR2 NR PC2-6400 (2x1GB) CAS5 Dual Channel Kit (F2-6400

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5 TwinX (2x1GB)

Can anyone give me some pointers? I don't know all that much about memory.

Well, I've only used Corsair without issue (until most recently)

I believe all of the brands you listed are decent.

And since they are the same price give or take, which does your motherboard manufacturer recommend?

I'm not sure. I'm replacing the motherboard as well with an Asus P5N-E, but I can't find that on the Asus website or any mention of recommended memory.

Linkage Motherboard

Here's the list from Page 18 of the Manual:

Kingston, Qimonda, Samsung, Hynix, Micron, Corsair, A-Data, Crucial, Transcend.

Ah, cheers. The search function kept borking, so thanks for finding it for me.

If you plan on overclocking you want the memory that has the most headroom. To me that translates to operating at tight timing using low voltage, so when you overclock you can relax the timing and raise the voltage. I think that the Geil look like a good choice.

I am using the Corsair 5400UL. Their stock is 3-3-3-8 @1.9V @675MHz. They have scaled up (for me) to 5-5-5-15 @ 2.3V @ 1000MHz. Had they been designed to work with a higher voltage and more relaxed timing they would have had less headroom for overclocking.

They don't make that corsair anymore and its only 1GB Kits (I have one its amazing, 4-4-3-8 1120MHz @ 2.4v's)

I'd also give a vote to the GeIL. Though if your willing to spend an extra £30, I'd go for this/=.

Yeah, that's pretty nice...but this is also the same price...

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB)

I've heard great things about Corsair's new Dominator RAM - ie that the heatspreaders actually work, but I can't really afford another £30. I'll definitely be overclocking the RAM - at the moment my Crucial DDR533 is @ 710mhz but I want to go to 2gb and I'm thinking having a faster guaranteed speed (ie PC2-6400) is a good idea.

Thats not really dominator RAM... I know its got the heatsinks but the chips (what really matters) are some cheap non overclocking ones. With that you'll be lucky to get to 1GHz 5-5-5-15. The Ballistix would do 1GHz @ 4-4-4-12 easily.

I don't know crap about European pricing. But I would go with
the Corsair XMS2 or the Crucial Zaltan recommended and skip
the Dominator Series. I bought some Geil PC4200 memory a
few years ago and it would not quite run as rated. I've heard
good things about OCZ and G.Skill but I've never tryed them.
My 2 cents worth. Hope it helps :-)

Another recommendation would be the RAM that I'm saving for. The Crucial 10th anniversary edition, it uses hand pick D9GMH for the best overclocking. An extra £30 would go along way it seems. Just don't go to the pub for a week.
Crucial 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Tenth Anniversary Dual Channel Kit (TY2KIT12864AA663)

*EDIT*
Found this. I know you wanted guarenteed DDR800 but this stuff WILL do it.

Well ta for the input guys. Eventually I decided to go for the Crucial 10th Anniversary stuff after reading some really good reviews of it. Oh, my poor, poor, abused student loan...
