It all depends what kind of setup you have being do you have raid setup Sata or IDE there is wide selections of drives you can pickup for cheap, i would at least not get anything under 100GB or better, the reason i say this as there are so many games out there that at least require as much as 3GB if not more and they will add up in size quick, you might also want to put up your specs of your computer such as Motherboard, Memory, CPU or processor size.

Here is just a couple good places to get Hard Drives from.

Newegg Raptor Hard Drive

Zipzoomfly Raptor Hard Drive

TigerDirect Raptor Hard Drive

WD Raptors FTW. With or without windows, and size dependant on your needs, you can't really go wrong with a Raptor.

You can find the 74GB version at Best Buy for like $120 before shipping.

(got Raptor?)

I agree with gpa. Raptors are the best.

I bet you can find it for slightly cheaper at newegg or something.

Raptors are nice for sure, but if they are beyond your budget, a 250-400GB HD will do nicely, with either 8 or 16MB cache and NCQ.

Western Digital and Seagate are among the top rated brands typically.

Here is one that seems to do pretty well, it's by Seagate and has "Perpendicular" technology...

Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB 3.5" IDE Hard Drive - OEM

You can find out more info on HD's in general below.

Well, that would be ideal..150GB Raid Raptors and a 500GB back up/storage drive is about the best you can get short of SCSI, Solid State HD's or the Gigabyte iRam...but those options cost a small fortune!
