| Hi, as it says in the title this is my first time posting here and I need an answer. I am wanting to find a good gaming case and I found one on a site but I do not know if it is a good case or not. Please help! Link: Black Inferno Max Case Mod (PC-61 Plus): CrazyPC Computers Do not post here anymore, post about my entire computer build at: http://forums.pcapex.com/hardware_ad...600_build.html Last edited by ocxpirate13; 14-January-07 at 04:28 PM.. | ||

| It's your standard Lian Li PC-61 chassis with a cut side panel. It's up to you to decide if a premod side panel is worth the 60 dollar premium over the standard case. The case itself is a tried and trued ATX midtower with great build quality. My only gripe is it still uses 80mm fans, and I'd have thought they'd stop making full ATX cases with 80mm fans years ago. ![]() | ||

| Welcome to PCApex! The only thing that varies from case to case that will have an effect on your actual components is the airflow. The case you are looking at has a decent cooling scheme (two 80mm front intake, one 80mm side intake, one rear 80mm exhaust, and 1 top 120mm exhaust), but I would reccomend shying away from overpriced pre-modded cases. Here at PCApex, you can get tons of free assistance and you can post your work log to recieve suggestions for free. Your best bet would be to save some money on your case and invest it in your "gaming machine". Aside from that, the case you are considering is pretty cool. That's a sick laser cut design, and if you can afford it...go for it. You could buy a dremel and try to do it yourself too though (at least the top window). | ||

| Well $60 more for a pre-modded case is probably more worth it since I have NEVER modded anything and I don't want to spend money if I screwed up modding my own lian-li. But overall is the case good for a gaming rig (Space wise, air flow/cooling wise, etc)? | ||

| Yes the top blowhole is an essential part of a good cooling setup. Hot air rises, so idealy one would have the hot air at the top being vented out at all times. You may want to think about investing at this point. You could use the money for the upgrade on a hole saw to drill the hole yourself. Then you'd have a hole saw for all your future projects, and you could feel better about owning a pre-modded case. | ||

| Good point about saving my money about the blowhole for a hole saw but I would rather buy pre-modded cases because all the case work has been completed and I might screw up cutting somewhere and have to spend another $100+ for a new case and still have a chance to screw up again! Another question: Does the blowhole mean that it is just a hole in the top of the case for the fan or it is the window plus a hole for the fan? | ||

| Blowhole refers to just the fan hole. It's a hole that blows. If you do attempt to cut the blowhole yourself, an error won't be that big of a deal. The only thing you could possibly damage is the plexiglass, and for $5 you could get another sheet (possibly enough for another mess up too) edit - A hole can be cut in anything. It doesn't matter if there is a window or not...if there is a hole cut out for a fan, it's a blowhole. If you do it with a window, it's a window with a blowhole. Come now, this is pretty obvious. | Here's my two cents......... Lian Li makes a great case hands down........Im not sure what your plans are for this system. If its just a gaming rig there's no problem with this case. This case will serve you well. I had one of those for several years and my temps were in the low 40's on full load (celcius). Here's the same identical item but much cheaper without the mods. This will save you quite a bit of money unless you really want that cutout on the side panel. Here's a linky for the basic case..... Newegg.com - LIAN LI PC-61 USB Black Computer Case - Retail It's really up to you.....spend extra on the laser cutout or use the money for something else you need for your system. | ||

| IMHO... There's a bit more information that we (I) can use to narrow down what would make a "Good Gaming Case"... How is your living space set up? Do you live in a 1-bedroom apartment with not a lot of space, or are you setting your computer up in one room of a 3-story mansion? Do you plan to go to each and every LAN that comes along, or are you going to become a "Gaming Hermit", and do your gaming from home? The reason I ask is that if you're in tight quarters, a full tower will probably not be the best option for you. Also, moving your gear to and from LANs all the time will either become a PITA, or you'll get REALLY strong with a full tower, monitor, etc. If you're going to LANs all the time, and you want to get people's attention with the way your machine looks, then a pre-mod will be ok, especially if you don't feel you have the time/patience/whatever to take a base case and cut it up/personalize it by modding it. Ok, now as far as that case you mentioned... Lian Li cases, for the most part, are solidly built, high quality specimens. Some people don't like them for whatever reason, but I swear by them. They can be used to house the components for a gaming machine, a home internet/email machine, just about anything you want/need. They are very popular, based on how many different sizes and styles they are available in, and how many sites will mod them for you, or sell you a pre-modded version. It all depends on what you ultimately want... Looks? Performance? Space-saving footprint? The ooh and aah factor? Truthfully, you can get that from just about any case. You personal taste and the depth of your wallet are the ultimate decision-makers here. I have a couple suggestions AFA LiLi cases go... The PC7B Plus as far as a mid-tower, the G70 as far as a full-tower, for their 120mm fans standard. Good cooling (better than the stock 80mm fans with the 61) is a must... | ||

| Personally, after having this CoolerMaster Stacker case for over a year. I won't buy any case that doesn't say Stacker on it. It's freakin awesome :-) And I don't see any links on the rest of your system to help with prices? | ||
