| Hi! I have a Fluke 179 which came with a nice Thermocouple for measuring temps. Unfortunately the thermocouple is VERY inconvenient for measuring CPU temps due to it's size. I'm wondering whether a thermistor that comes with most bay device temp. monitors, (like my Innovatek Fan-O-Matic PRO) could be connected to the + and - sockets on my Fluke 179 and provide accurate readings. I know I could simply test this using a glass of Ice Water but, I was hoping someone could provide a definite answer before I went through the effort. TIA -hartigan | ||

| Testing it yourself would be your best bet. Unless someone just happens to have your exact same model and the same spare probe. I watched Cpt.Planet's Dry Ice live video feed and bought one like his so I would know who had the same stuff :-) | ||

| You need a Type K Thermocoupler for a Fluke meter. Thermocouples - type K thermocouple sensors You can find them at a lot of different places though. That's just the first example I could find. ADD: I'll save you the hassle - no it won't work. But you can find type K's in all different styles. | ||

troof. thanks to all for the answers. based on Iat's initial suggestion I found these, which I think will work (cue Monty Burns voice) . . . Exxxcelent. (ly) Type K Omega .005" Wire Thermocouples .005"!! (.13mm) I'd almost get away with that thickness being between the core and the heatsink (but I won't try that.) If anyone knows how well these work, I'd love some feedback. -hartigan

No Problem. I'm definitely buying them (pending any sort of bidding war) so I'll let you know how they work out and would definitely be willing to sell 1 or 2 at ebay cost (obviously.) They list at Omega for $50.00, so these are definitely a great deal if I can keep the bid where it is. Here's a link to the Spec .pdf for them as well: Omega Precision Fine Wire Thermocouples -hartigan P.S. There's also a mini-Type K male to Fluke banana plug adapter available HERE

| You can also use a LM35 and a small circuit (just a resistor and a + supply). Just put your meter on the volt range, once you have the reading in volts just do a small calc to get the temp (The final temp is in C) The whole thing shouldnt cost more than a buck or 2. | ||
