Default Best HD for buck

My bday is coming up and the advantage of being young is that people still give you money! (that and a few other things...) I'm looking at maybe $100-150 for a new HD, I'd like to have as much storage as possible for the price and most definitely be a SATA drive. Any suggestions?

Seagate barracuda 320gb - $94.99 (free shipping)
Hitatchi 400gb- $134.99 ( $6.00 shipping)

Aslo you might try and look for a couple smaller drives to raid...might get the same or more storage for cheaper.

Not to mention FASTER! If your mobo supports RAID 0, you can get a pair of drives (like the one T2 put up) and increase your performance. If you are just looking for storage then a single drive, or even better - a pair in RAID 1, would be a better option for keeping your important data safe.

Wow. I just broke 20 gigs of crap on my computer and I thought I was doing bad! Good luck on your upcoming b-day!

I just had a look at one of our US distributors prices this morning

Pricing on SATA drives is damn good (just as good as regular IDE actually)
The sweet spot (for Western digital stuff at least) appears to be the 250 and 320GB models.

400GB seems to be getting better, but 500+ is still arm and a leg material

the hitachi looks damn nice, but my first drive ever died recently, and out of some 7 or so drives i've used since...forever really...my newest one died first, and it was a hitachi....and considering the fact they screwed me last time out of some $50, i'd rather not deal with another....

I scored one of the 200GB maxtor's T2 linked above
At least it will come in handy as a backup drive, and it's hard to beat $60
