Question AM2, NForce 5 and Crossfire??

Hi peeps - hoping you could offer some advice - Google is NOT being my friend here

i just had a question relayed to me at work - We have a guy who's got a crossfire setup and wants to make the move to AM2.
He REALLY wants to use crossfire on the NForce 5 chipset though (570 or 590 chipsets)

The question is do anyone here happen to know if there are third party drivers that will "support" Crossfire on the NForce 5 platform?

You'd think with the AMD/ATI merger there would be...

But I don't know of any, I have seen a few of the "Hybrids" posing scores at XtremeSystems, but I thought they were Conroe/X-Fire set ups.

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/

I'll take a peek around, but I still think it's a baaad idea to "Cross Breed"

Thanks Mr Necro
I'm with you on the crossbreeding thing - it just don't seem right using an ATI setup with an Nvidia chipset

(Heck - hacked drivers scare me too)

Ok..here is the link fors your Inbread...umm, I mean Cross-Breeding friend

Quote:
This is betadriver with 7900/7600/7300 support, but not with 7950GX2 support.
This is unoffical driver and you can try to run SLi on any chipset at your own risk.
The archive size is about 13MB: http://steffbard.com/drv/85.96_mod.exe

1. The driver works perfect: http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=4862834
screen: http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/4470/015zk.gif
But I had some problems with use of the driver, for example in SLi-mode I had the monitor image from the second card.

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...=Hacked+driver

EDIT: Dammit..this is for the the OTHER cross breeders...let me check again...lol

EDIT 2: It apears your buddy is out of luck, I guess the Cybergods didn't see fit to allow such a freak to be unleashed on the net...

EDIT 3: The closest I can find is ASUS has a board that allows AM-2 and Crossfire, but using an ATI chipset

I would suggest telling your friend about Intel Core Duo and
then suggest (2) Nvidia 7950GX2's as an alternative :-)

I'd mentioned that already, funnily enough - He wanted an Nforce 5 AM2 board, nothing else - and with #$%&!! crossfire!

I conclude that this guy has his head up his ass

Thanks for your help guys!

Ran across this article, I had kinda forgotten about it

There are a few AM-2 boards coming out with X-Fire support, if he is bound and determined to crossbreed.

http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2819&p=1

It appears Anand liked the MSI version the best

Quote:
The MSI is the best shipping example of the ATI RD580 chipset, an outstanding overclocker, and a board that will deliver the kind of features and performance demanded by enthusiasts - including full support for CrossFire in dual X16 PCIe slots.

He can have his AM-2/ Crossfire, but you probably will never see it working using a NVIDA chipset ]
