Default Nvidia Quadro

Simple Question. What is the Nvidia Quadro Series for? I was told it's for game design and stuff. I just saw the prices of those guys and was like whoa...
If you could afford it, would it be really good in gaming, especially SLI?

I have one, and they are awful for gaming .... it barely runs NFS MW in minimal settings .......
they are only opt for cad design and such ..... (vectors, CGI, caad ..... etc... ) not even good for benchmarking .....

That series is not for gaming, at all, it will actually do very bad in gaming. It's for workstations, not just for 'game design', but for design in general, such things as CAD, Maya, 3dstudiomax. The cards are optimized for opengl.

Dont buy it for gaming.

Yep, Quadros are workstation cards... not intended for gamers. Best stick with nVidia's Geforce series cards for gaming... or ATi's Radeon or X series cards (if that's your cup of tea).

Cad cards are for "Precision" work, they will render every object "Exactly" and don't use "Tricks" to increase framerate.

I did an "Aplles to Oranges" type of test with my friend Alpha's Cad card and my SLI rig, bottom line... games looked horrible on his rig (Missing foilage on tree's, low framerate. etc)

http://forums.pcapex.com/pcapex_dail...fantastic.html

Video game drivers will use optimizations that only draw the "Viewable" surface of an object, and disregaurd anything else, a Cad card cannot do this and will render EVERYTHING!

Talking Re: Nvidia Quadro

My Dad has the X3 Quadro. I asked him why he bought it, citing that I'm the only person in the household that does 3D Modeling, and he siad, "Cause I could, and it was for one hell of a price on eBay."

For many reasons, one of them is volume, they just don't make as many, that drives costs up!

The realy high end ones also offer more memory than a normal desktop "Flagship" performance card, and other architectural improvements that are needed for "Precision"

Also alot of money is built in to the cost for driver development and support, it takes the same amount of engineering effort for 1000 cards as it does for 100,000
