Exclamation Gigabit "wired" router advice...

It's probably the first post I make is ths 'section but I really need your advice on this one....

Ok... here it goes... the wife and I live in a rented appartment atm... but.... that's going to change soon!
We're at the virge of buying our new house... needless to say this involves a LOT of planning......
Altogether we've got 4 PC's... 3 already got a Gigabit 'nics.... and the 4th one... the PVR will get one soon...

So... we're planning to "wire up" the house with some Cat5c cabling (or higher)... We don't want to
"sacrifice" one of the PC's as "network server"... so... I guess we need a quality "wired" Gigabit router...

Wireless isn't needed... just a quality router/netswitch with a minimum of 4 ports (peferrably more), a higly configurable os/bios (port forwarding, anyone?)....

We've gone through 2 10/100 routers/netswitches over the years.... so... regular bios updates, lot's of configuration options & advanced options are highly preferrable...

Cost isn't an issue....

TDR

D-Link DGL-4100 4 port gigabit router. Highly configurable with packet prioritizaion and all that since it is designed for gamers. There is a version with wireless if you are interested (which is the one I have). Since I have more then 4 computers, I also have a D-Link 8 port gigabit switch. Together they work pretty darn well.

If you have any specific questions about what the router can do, let me know and I will check it out when I get home.

Three w/o wireless.

Gigabit lan and wan w/ wireless. Not sure how useful a gigabit wan port is now, but maybe in the future.

All of these seem to be quality products. Although it might be cheaper to just connect the PCs w/ a gigabit switch and run a 10/100 router into that. At this point the internet connection isn't going to benefit from a gigabit port.

Beat me to it, kinda. I would suggest the DGL-4300. I know you said the wireless is not needed BUT. for juse 8 dollars more you can have the wireless as an option.

This router is GREAT, it runs 10/100/1000 flawlessly, ALSO it has 108mbps wireless! so if you ever get a laptop or something and want to be mobile around the house your good to go.

I would spring for the wireless for just 8 bucks more. But the 4100 is the same one just w/o wirless.

DGL-4300 $119 @ Newegg

Just remember, if you want the 108 wireless, you have to use a DLink card that supports it. But otherwise it is a great little router.
