Default What needs upgrading

I'm curious as to what needs upgrading on my system. I'm tired of the long load times on battlefield 2 and some other games on steam. I dont know what it is with my computer but sometimes it just sounds like it's just working to hard for the task it's performing and my brother said the same thing. What would cause this? I reformatted the other day and that seemed to help some

Any ideas?

Currently i have
Amd 64 3500
Dfi Lanparty Ut Nf4 Motherboard
1 gig of Crucial Ram Pc 2700
Nvidia 7800 Gt Video Card
450 watt power supply

No question about it, another gig of ram. Steam apps will use near a gig of ram on their own, combine this with XP's own memory use and you're soon paging to the hdd. It's also well documented that BF2 requires 1.5~2 gigs of ram to operate on full settings (or near full).

More RAM would definitely be a good investment. FEAR and other newer games need ~2gb so its not just BF2 that would benefit.

I would also say another stick 1gig of ram that would help you out, but make sure you MotherBoard can support that much ram, and you might also want to make sure there is no other programs or software running in the start up or background that would not need to be running that also would cause your PC to run really slow.

He is using a DFI LP, there should be no problem with 2GB's of ram, he can probably use 4GB if he wanted to..In fact most NF-4 based boards will, along with just about any modern premium board.

Just remember when upgrading RAM on AMD-64, if you run 4 sticks of 512, you MUST set it manually to use 2T or it won't boot up, using 2x1GB sticks will allow you to keep 1T timings for better performance!

2GB is definately what you need, 4GB won't be fully utilized by XP, it will only see around 3.5GB's...you will need Vista for it to work properly..as of now there are not many programs that can benefit from 4GB anyways.
( XP 64bit edition would probably work too)

2T is CPC off (Command Per Clock) 1T is CPC on.

1T can offer a nice performance gain over 1T, but the memory controller on AMD64 does not work properly with it enabled when using 4 sticks.

2T offers more stabilty in some situations including Overcl****ing at extremely high FSB speeds.

In the bios under the memory section, you will find the option, it may not appear if your memory is set to "Auto"or "SPD"

You have to set it to "Manual" or "User Defined" sometimes to see other options.

Blaze, check out my "Ultimate Links" collection above, you will find just about every tool you will ever need for tweeking out your system!

EDIT: I alos suggest you ditch the PC2700 you have instead of adding to more like it, and get 2x1GB of PC3200 or higher ram.

You are leaving some performance behind at DDR333!

Alright thanks for the ideas.

I'm probably going to upgrade to a 2Gb stick of like Pc 3200 or maybe something faster.
Might as well get a X2 series processor but im going to wait for them to drop in price first.
