Default To upgrade or new build

Alright. I have had my eye on upgrading or building an SLI rig. my main computer would be upgraded or replaced.

Whats in it goes as 512 of ram, AMD 64 X2 4200, gigabyte K8 triton,RADEON 9250 128mb, x-connect 500watt psu, 2 sony DVD RW daul layer, and one seagate 160 gb hhd.

What i am asking is would it be better to just keep this rig as is or do and buy all new parts and a new case. since I would h ave to replace the psu and mobo if I upgraded.

If I go with a new build what would be a good cpu ( i love amd) for SLI? I love the daul core but not have the money this time to but another.

Also could i Just buy an 939 athlon like an 3800 and put that In place of the 4200 and move that to an SLI rig without having to do a bio flash?

any help would be great

That X2 should be plenty good enough for the SLI but opteron all the way if you do change

the 3800 should be read by that bios if the board supports it

what do you need 2 dvd dual layer drves for?

definately get more ram but i think upgrading should be plenty for that setup

Default just get a new board

id just get a new board that supports sli and get two mid level cards like the 7600gt at somewhere decent like new egg i have a 500w x-connect too and it should be able to power two 7600gt's or radeon x1600's but not 7800's or radeon 1800's and i would just make sure the cpu fit into the new board the case is probably irelevant 'cause you could always fit a new board in unless your using a tiny case oh and ram is a lot cheaper now get some more oblivion and most of the new games coming will reccomend a gig

the super lanboy will hold a decnet WC setup as well as all Lian lis, and thermaltake makes good WC cases

Cash is the key.

Do you need or want 2 rigs?

For 1 rig Upgrade the memory to 2G.

If you want 2 then look for a good deal on combos. MoanarchComputers.com usualy
has some good prices.

HAHA TWO RIGS i have four in my room. i just want to go with sli i am thinking about just moving the cpu from this rig and getting an athlon 3800 for its replacement. then use the x2 in the somewhat new sli rig.

Another thing what would be a good water cooling set up for sli and cpu and maybe the north chipset and what about a good psu for sli and sata drives?

Thanks for the help

Before worrying about SLI, get more RAM. I recommend at least 1 GB.

With only 512 MB of RAM, you are bottlenecking your processor and will be bottlenecking any SLI you get.
