Default help with choosing some ram

Ok well i was looking at upgrading the ram and put in a stick of 1gb,at the moment i have 2x256mb ram,so i'd keep them in and run 1.5gb of ram,But i was looking at this motherboard manual i found on the net for my motherboard, and it says *Supports only 2.5v ram DDR DIMM*,And looking around only laptop stuff is 2.5v

also tells me it supports "DDR DRAM PC2100/PC2700/PC3200* But then i look on a local website and see its all over 2.5v's,Kinda a bit confussed here
This is the site i want to buy off, because its all in New Zealand www.trademe.co.nz so maybe someone can help me find some ram?

Im not totally new to doing PC's just only got into the newer type stuff heh and just want to make sure before i get some ram and then find out it wont work
The motherboard i have is a gigabyte 7VT600P-RZ

Your motherboard might have memory voltage adjustments in the BIOS, but if it doesn't, you should still be OK because the voltage should be pre-programmed into the RAM's SPD chip. The motherboard will pick this up, along with the RAM speed and timings, and adjust it automatically.

As for running mis-matched DIMM's, you shouldn't need to. I would actually sell the 2x256's and pick up 2x512's instead. Unless you are going to upgrade to 2GB soon (since you wanted a 1GB stick), 2x512's will get you better performance and a better price, too.

yea i was thinking of upgrading to 2gb some time,So didnt see much point getting 2 sticks of new 512mb if im gonna end up getting another stick of 1gb,
I was just gonna get a 1gb stick now,and another one in a few weeks,I was looking at getting kingston brand'd one,I dont have big money to go and get good stuff, and I've heard that kingston is a pretty good brand so ill get one stick of 1gb in a few weeks, and another in a few weeks after that,Then ill sell off the 2 sticks of 256mb,Probly to my brother heh

Yeah Kingston makes good value RAM. You should be fine running 3 RAM sticks for now.
